1970 Topps

I listed a 1970 Topps #607 Gary Waslewski PSA 8 on ebay twice with no sale. The second listing started at $5 with no takers. I only had a couple of cards in this year and I do not follow this year closely. I was surprised that I could not even give the card away, so to speak. Is the 1970 set that difficult to sell even PSA 8's in? Just curious...would love to hear from the experts on 1970 out there.

The high pop cards like that one are tough to unload. There are a handful in every set. I don't bother grading the high pop cards when I submit unless they are a near lock for a 9.
  • Hi,

I would have been interested in it for $5 but you only ship to the US so it ruled me out as a potential buyer.

    Oh sure Matt...

I had a 1970 #607 Waslewski PSA 8 close without bids starting at $6 on Tuesday and I DO ship Internationally.

Next thing yo'll say is that my $30 International Shipping is too high!!!image

    Don,

Of the auctions that I had close on Tuesday, there were only two sets where I had cards with no bids at $6 each and those were some high pop 1970 Topps and some 1972 OPC Baseball. The 70 isn't a super popular set and some cards have a pop that is really out of whack because of some vending and cut case runs made available over the last few years. The 72 OPC set is just not popular.

  • in the 1970 set there is a group (#592 - 632) where the pop of 9's are so great that the 8's just don't move. Even those 9's can be had for under the grading fees.

the 70 set is such that once you satisfy a small group of nuts there is no other interest. image
  • The 70 set has always been my favorite . I can remember that from childhood more then any other. My father would buy me 10 packs(1.00 total) every other Sunday, I personally thnk it's one of nicest sets. I 'm from Queens NY, and obviously a Mets fan, I love seeing Shea Stadium in a large percentage of the photos for the NL cards, and Yankee Stadium for the AL cards.

    Nuyauwka,

Isn't that a great memory??? I can still vividly remember going into the McCrorys at the nearby strip mall with my mom and going through the rack packs in 1972 with birthday money and piling a stack of 12 or 14 packs on the counter with all of the Mets and Superstars I could find.

  • We had a candy store right on the corner, the guy behind the counter used to make us move so his customers could pay as we tried to slip the cello's out of the box(71"s I believe) and see who was on the back of the pack. There is a reason why I collect all sports from 69-72, it's because I can tie the memories to the cards. I love it when I'm collecting a set and I see a name in the title on a Ebay search , I can't wait to open it up to see again what the card lookes like, I always remember the name , sometimes on certain cards I can't remember the pose.

    Howard!

Guy here. If you get this post, please get back to me on the '69 OPC's, so I can get your order out. Thanks!

PS-- Sorry to all for the spam, but I accidentally erased Howard's email address. and don't know how else to get ahold of him. Sorry again!
  • The Waslewski card has had several psa 8's up on ebay in the last few months I believe most of the main 1970 topps collectors who deal with ebay already have the card it just seems this card is always up on ebay in psa 8.

The gary waslewski card is not a rare one, as sad. I picked on up on e-bay for around $10, and the seller shipped internationally.image

  • Hello I am not actively trying to complete a 1970 Topps set at this time but i have a hard time passing up some of the bargains on e bay lately. i won a psa 8 Dodgers player card yesterday in psa 8 for $3.25, and several others for $5 to $6 each. it's very difficult for me to let these go by when they are at such bargain prices, and i am unfortunately very sick when it comes to card collecting. I just can't say no, so keep the bargains coming i have'nt totally ran out of credit cards to use yet. Lol. Phil
  • Phil - You know you have the Set Registry/eBay sickness when you enter just "psa" onto the box under search criteria! But...on he flipside, you won't miss anything that slips by a more specific search.
Best of Luck with those bargains.
Sooner or later you'll fid yourself with enough cards to start this set!
    :-)

  • Ray, I'm currently at about 12% on the set. At this time i'm trying to mostly confine my sickness to my 1960 Topps baseball set 85%. maybe after that i will work on the 73 all the while looking for psa bargain. thanks Phil
