Check it out This part of my post has obviously been edited and YES, I realize I'm in the wrong Forum AGAIN! Seems a lot of members are aware of this coin, whereas I am not. In 2002 I may have been a PCGS Gold Club Member but I had no computer. I need A REAL EXPERT OPINION before this dealer ships this thing. I have technically already paid for it but am reasonably sure I can speak with Paul Zepadody of Numismatic Assets at uscoins@optonline.net about this coin before it actually leaves the building. Any body besides me believe that a 5% re-stocking fee is just a tad outrageous and maybe should have tipped me off that "Something" just might be amiss here? We've already had a long chat about this coin but he did not disclose any of it's history and technically, I don't know if he is legally bound to. The slab both before and after reads PCGS 64, The question is...Is it or is it not a PCGS 64? By that I mean was this strange looking toning on this coin present when it was first deemed PCGS 64 the first go round or did "something" happen in the first holder it was in..the Green labeled one that WWQ has so generously provided us all a link to back to the time it was auctioned at Heritage , I believe for $3680 on 6-6-02. WWQ's pictures clearly indicate that INDEED this is the case. Was $3680 the going rate not quite 2 years ago? What's going on here? Personally, I have my own opinion. I'll ask any so-called expert the same question I asked the dealer, Paul..."What the hell is that on top of his head and just what exactly brought on such strange toning!?

My Collection of Old Holders
Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
She got to be heading towards the Southern Cross and taking another's place
Nevertheless, here is a truer picture of your coin, which sold at a Heritage auction in June 2002 for a mere $3680. I believe this is more representative of the coin you will receive.
1932-D sold in Heritage auction
By the way.. YOU ARE STILL IN THE WRONG FORUM for this. You are neither soliciting to buy or sell coins here.
DITTO:.....You DAWG!...
If you mean for the 32-S, where the hell's mine...
Nothing against you at all!! There is NO rush for me to buy an average MS64 ugly toned quarter. That's just not my process for buying coins. This is a game of patience and waiting for the 'right' coins to surface. Its taking me almost 5 years to assemble my set and I am willing to wait to find that VERY NICE PQ example to fit my standards. I will pay a premium for it, but it will be a premium coin for the grade. The coin DOES NOT have to be 'white' but it must be a PQ example, like most of the coins in my collection.
By the way, there are no "perfect" MS64 coins. Just some are better than others. And I want the best I can find. Your coin wasnt for me, even at $5,000. I think you paid a lot even if you think it was a bargain. At $3680 it was a bargain, but not now. Additionally, the fact that the seller was not forthright in the history of the coin, led me to shy away from it. Whether or not he was the one who tried to upgrade it, it was not a freshly made coin as he stated.
As for your reference that I will end up with an AU-58. Sorry, but I dont indulge coins at that grade. The coins I pick out are one to two undergrades below the top grade (depending on the coin and availability), if the top grade is unobtainable.
I agree that the supply is not as great as one would believe. The pop reports for this date are way over the amount that is really available. But in the meantime I'm still actively looking.
Enjoy your coin and be proud of it. It s a 64 all day long!!
I just read your edited (first) post. Seems like you are doing an about face. First you boast (as the title of this thread would indicate) that you picked up a PQ coin for a bargain price. Then after reading my post and providing a link to a previous auction, you are rethinking purchasing the coin you are buying.
The auction CLEARLY states that there is a restocking fee of 5% to prevent the cherrypickers from "looking' at it. It also CLEARLY states to ask any questions BEFORE you bid (not after). The auction was on the block for almost a week if my memory serves me correctly. Certainly enough time to ask all the questions that you needed to (as I did).
So with all the experience (some 40 years) that you also boast about, how could one make such a mistake. If its a 64 all day long, pay for the auction and move on. Dont let my little blurb about it not being "right" for me stop you. Not every coin is for every person. I thought it was a lot of money for the coin you bought. Without the ugly toning spots on it, it would be residing in my collection.
Although I do not know you well, I think I know you well enough to know that you DO NOT come from a bad place. I think your intentions are good and I have enjoyed reading some insightful posts (the one without all the crap in them).
No apology necessary as I did not take anything you said personally.
I wish you all the luck in building your set. I hope you add many new additions over time and that the 32-D fits well with your set. If you liked the coin enough to bid on it, then its yours to keep. The history doesnt matter much at this point since you like the coin. The fact that it sold for $3680 a year and a half ago is irrelevant.
Enjoy it and move on.
All the best

<< <i> I cringe when people make their dealings so public. >>
Well TWQG, this sometimes works out really well.
We learn as we are reminded of restocking fees that sometimes pop up, learn the history of certain coins, the poster gets invaluable feedback from the rest of us, much of it, I might add, private as well as public.
We all learn as no deal is ever a "perfect" deal as there is no "perfect" coin or price!
I salute boom for coming out of the "closet" with the admission that maybe, just maybe he just might be wrong on this.
Remember this and it is TRUE FOR ALL OF US..........BEEN THERE DONE THAT!!!!!!!!
So now lets make this experience really count!!!!!!!!!!

-While Boom's approach is not my style, I am always open to your sage advice.
Boom, if your happy with your purchase, i'm happy for you and i don't even own a 32D right now.

Glad it worked out. Pictures can be deceiving as we all know. But could you clarify one thing:
but if I want one I can send it in and the dealer even said I could send it back to him and he would take care of it...
What does this mean actually?
WWQ
I do apologize for the inconvenience this has caused you, however you can send this coin in for the DH Spot review service. All you have to do is write it up on a new submission form, include noted on where the strange activity is and also a copy of the invoice that shows how much you paid for the coin. Once we get the coin in our possession we will be able to determine what we can do for you.
PS.
When sending emails to PCGS, please be sure to only send it to one person. This will help eliminate multiple people working on the same issue. If you wish you can email me only directly and I will show it to the appropriate people.
If you have any questions feel free to call me at 1-800-447-8848 ext 168 or email me at araceli@collectors.com.
Thank you
