Anyone have the new 3rd edition Krause for the 1600s?

Just wondering if there is any pressing reason to update my 2nd edition. Have they really updated anything or just changed covers?image

It has a nice looking blue cover, I like it better than the white cover on the 2nd edition.

They must have done something because the book is HUGE. I haven't purchased one yet though. Supposedly my supplies wholesaler has them. I might do a PCGS Forums preorder special if I can get them cheap enough.

I have seen it and it is very large, about as thick as the 20th century edition.

The new ones are about half an inch thicker than the old ones.

More pressing is that several KM numbers have changes due to reorganization. Imagine my surprize when my Ferdinad II thaler from the Ensisheim (Alsace) is now a French coin rather than an Austrian coin. Also has a new KM number.

I think I'm still on the first edition with the 1600's volume. Second for the others.

  • I have the new edition... however I haven't had the opportunity to compare it with any other previous editions.

Two things I find weird in the catalog are:

Firstly, there are only two Russian coins listed (except for gold and novodels). Don't know if there really were no silver wire kopeks back then.

Secondly, no Venetian grossos are listed. I have one (reportedly) from 1578-1585 and I find it unusual that I may own one of the last issues imageimage

Otherwise, Germany takes up approx 40% of the volume, but that should not surprise anyone

Philip, does it list Thailand? I have always thought it odd that there are no coins from Thailand listed in the second edition.

Krause doesn't know SE Asia existed in the 17th Century.

They have it listed in the 18th century book, but not the 17th! I have several Bhats that are not in any of the last three books, so that means they must be 17th century or before, right?

The written Thai language has changed, as well as their dating system, since the 16th C. I don't even know if the 'baht' was used back then. Have a scan of one of the coins? I can ask my son if he can read the writing.

Sorry for the delay but didn't pick mine up until two days ago. The third edition weighs in at 1366 pages.
