1935 National Chicle (FB) question

This auction is already above SMR (and still hasn't hit the reserve). I'm just trying to get a gauge as to how tough these are to collect in mid-grade 5s. Pop report shows 65 graded with 12 graded 5 (the most of the grades). Is this a particularly tough set to put together in PSA 5? I've been tracking them on eBay recently but haven't see all that many pop up recently. Just wondering if it's worth going after - I really like the look of the cards!

1935 #24 Hinkle PSA 5 SMR $165, currently above $200

Throw the SMR out on these babies. Deals can be had every once and awhile, but for the most part, you wont get these less than SMR. It really all depends whos shopping at the time.

I'm watching this one as well...image

    Best of luck,

  • Jasp is right about this one, I was looking a couple months back to pick one up for novelty's sake....they're expensive!! I'm currently tracking the rockne that came up the other day. i'm dying to see what that baby sells for.

    I just sold a pop 3 psa 9 common for $4,800(smr 1500).

  • A Hinkle in PSA 5 usually sells between $325-350. Most people think it is the first card of the high series and I think that is why it sells for so much. It is actually the last card of the low series. If you want to see smr prices thrown out the window start tracking high # sales. Did you see PSA 5 Rockne that sold with the bin of $795? That is the highest I've seen a PSA 5 Rockne sell for.

  • Davalillo, did you sell that to pproperties? I've bought a bunch of Chicles from him in the past and he will pay insane amounts for high end Chicles that he doesn't have. He actually offered MW 80k for the PSA 9 Nagurski but the big SGC set collector offered 85k. MW declined both offers and listed it on Ebay and the large SGC collector ended up winning it for right over 80k and Greg(pproperties) was the underbidder at 80k.

WOW, maybe I should have held out for more.

I won't disclose who I sold it to as it was a private transaction but I assume it will be reflected in the registry soon.

  • Anyone out there have doubles of relatively well centered PSA 5 or 6 copies that they would be willing to part with? (That haven't already made their way to eBay?) image
  • Anyone know the correct way to pronounce "Chicle"?
  • pronounced: Chickle
