Sure is purty! Half way decently centered too...Is it a member of your immediate family yet?

You know, it'd be easier to collect pictures of these coins than the coins themselves... Beautiful.

For some reason, I don't feel inclined to participate in the seized auction lots, due to the questionable nature of the government's methods of seizing the property. For me, it's akin to buying from a street hawker who you just know is trying to pawn hot items. While in some cases the government's seizure of property is legitimate, I feel there's way too much evidence of the basic disregard of jurisprudence and property rights of citizens. To me, this is a fundamental issue, and I know the government has been turning fundamental common law, as well as consititutional law on its head with its asset forfeiture practices. I don't want to be a part of this, even if I were to "benefit". I don't want to be a part of receiving stolen property, or denying civil/human rights to my fellow human beings.

  • Jester, I actually agree with you 100% on the methods of the federal government. However ...

That web site is just using the term 'govenment seizures' to attract business, I doubt if many of the items are actual govenment seizures. From the website:

Federal Asset Recovery Services and its official Web site “SeizedPropertyAuctions.com” is a private corporation which specializes in liquidating assets of all types. We extend our expertise and services to state and federal agencies, local municipalities, police departments, lending institutions, the business and legal communities and the general public.

  • The "Seized Property" website is a scam. You will pay retail plus for any coin as they bid their coins up to a hefty reserve.image

Compa, even if this company is not directly affiliated with the government, I will not (knowingly) have any part of any operation that is involved in any way in the process of asset forfeiture policies of any government or government agency.

That's what I was wondering about.. whether they shill their stuff. These outfits are usually themselves run by shady characters...

Plus, what's up with the $4 "registration fee"??

Hmmm, that is a good point that I would not have thought about. I appreciate the insight, as I was already at the site thinking about bidding in the future.

Seems like I am always learning something interesting here. Just might be time to give something back (do I hear a giveaway coming?)

Sounds like a scam indeed. I disagree with Jester's position though.I believe that the majority of the cases is a legitimate seizure and I'll always be inclined to buy from street hawkers, as long as the items are genuine. Of course , that's just me.

Common law was nearly wiped out by the Romans, and survived only in Britain. Common law is thousands of years old, and recognizes that men are free and nobody, not even a government or king, has the right to steal property from them. These tenets were written into law in 1215 with the signing of the Magna Charta. Much later, in the United States Constitution, the same principles were to become the guiding legal structure of the new republic of the United States, and therein are clearly defined: nobody has the right to take the property of any person without due process, which means after a fair and public trial, and after being convicted by a jury of peers. Only then can a sentence be announced and only then can any property be seized to pay the sentence due to society. No other seizures are legal.
