would you leave negative ebay feedback if retaliatory (-) is likely?

I take pride in being a good ebayer, with 99.8% positive feedback. I've only had 2 negatives from the same person who decided to use retaliation against me.
I'm having an issue with a new bidder who for no reason decided to send me profanity laced e-mails (btw - the one person who left me a negative also did this - I guess there is some pattern here), I guess to try to get himself off the hook for the auction.
I always leave negatives for non paying bidders after 30-35 days. Many times, it is for users who already have some negatives, and sometimes I feel a little bad when it brakes a perfect record, but I think it's the right thing to do.
Now to my question, would you leave a negative feedback for someone and risk a retaliatory negative feedback? Is it worth it? When you see a seller with a couple of negatives and several hundred postives, does that influence your decision to bid or pass? Do some of you who have perfect feedback just disregard these types of situations and move on to preserve your feedback?
I think someone is going to suggest that these types of things can always be worked out, but again, I'm receiving lots of profanity, and immature comments (ie. I'm going to tell everyone on ebay you are a bad seller).

So my answer is YES! Teach them a lesson. You'll get a neg back, but it is the right thing to do. That jerk that won your auction probably outbid somebody that really wanted that card, and would have paid immediately.
And I'm about 2 more emails and one more week away from leaving my boy a neg.
I've left dozens of negatives for deserving deadbeats over the years, and only recieved 1 retalitory negative. (my other neg was an error and I refuse to pay $20 to have it removed). I just left a comment that the neg was retaliation.
Perfect feedback is nice, but I don't hesitate to buy from sellers with a few negatives, as long as there is no pattern or "red flags" showing a potential problem - like too many "the post office lost it" responses. However, I do think twice about sellers that leave abusive or angry responses when they receive a neg.
however i just wont bid if less than 99% ...i thought i was getting a great deal once from this seller with around 97% and i got a very good lesson. no cards after a month and a huge hassle ..not worth it.

Collector of Vintage Golf cards! Let me know what you might have.
What I really dislike is when I make my payment on time and get no feedback. What more can I do but pay the seller on time? I have religiously left feedback to everyone I do business with. Lately, I have not given 3 sellers feedback because of misrepresentation of product or damages. Yes, it should have been a negative, but because they left me no feedback, I have to assume they will only retaliate. I heard one can leave feedback after 90 days if one has the ebay # stored somewhere.
JTcards has left me no feedback on a recent transaction even though I paid on time. Because he is a big dealer and not likely going to pull any funny stuff, I just left him a positive feedback because I was happy with his service. He may never leave me feedback, but I did my part. He won't extort more money from me, so I was secure to leave him feedback. Sellers should leave feedback before the buyer.

actually when it comes to vintage PSA ..i hardly have a hard time wether buying or selling ...the few hassles i have had on ebay have been with modern stuff usually ungraded and usually under 10 bucks.
BTW ...for the people who still havent tried buying something from Jay ...nicest dealer you could find ...how about this for service , he sent me a card i won on ebay before he actually got the money.

You mention the abusive e-mails. This is from Ebays help pages:
<< <i>User-to-user threats - Threats of bodily harm made via email. Remember, eBay can only act when there are emailed threats of physical harm. All other forms of harassment should be reported to the proper authorities. If you experience email harassment, report it to your Internet Service Provider (ISP), too. >>
If he is making threats of any type forward them to his and your own ISP and get his e-mail account blocked as well. If he has made any threats of bodily harm (i.e. I'll kick your a** if you don't do what I want) then report him to Ebay as well.
Hope that helps
Matt
There is too large a percentage of scum and scams on ebay right now. The only way any of it will be cleaned up is through good ebayers. Ebay has their thumb in a discreet location when it comes to doing anything. Besides, if everything you say is exactly correct, you could neg him and then get your retaliatory one removed through square trade. Although it costs $20, sometimes it could be worth it.
