whats the story?

whats the story on these "LEAF EXHIBITS" cards I see everywhere on eBay? They are all supposedly numbered, for example, I see Rickey Hendersons numbered to /27, /46, /60 etc.. but they are all the same black and white photo..

doesnt it kinda defeat the purpose of numbering cards if you have the same black and white photo? I've been unable to determine exactly how many #'d Henderson cards there are, but I would have to guess there are over 1,000 and they are all #'d less than 100.. heh.. they all have small "variations" which were obviously done purposely by Leaf.. why? so they could simply put out a smaller print run of that variation? this is irritating to me...

is there a purpose for these cards? I see people advertising "codes" or something on the back of the cards also..

  • Apparently, they are a throwback to some sort of 4x6 inch cards that used to come out of vending machines back in the 60s or something. They had sports figures as well as other celebrities on them.

Many people compare the Exhibits to the Topps Tek releases from a few years back. There's a bajillion different variations, but it's somewhat neat.

Most of that information I provided is probably wrong, because I'm just going on memory. But it's generally correct.
Police: Are you classified as human?

Korben Dallas: Negative, I am a meat popsicle.
  • Each player has different variations and each one is numbered.
The lowest I have seen is to 21 and the highest is 66
I just sold a Mike Schmidt numbered to 21 for $103.00!!!
