Aw Jeez, my heid hurts . . .

. . . I need help from you 16th to 18th century Germanic types!

Specifically, I found that old Hans (my 8th GGrandfather) took off from Goersdorf, Alsace (then Germany; Hesse-Darmstadt?) in 1750 with about 180+ gulders to his name and a good looking German wench for a wife! He sailed out of Rotterdam for Phillyimage

So, the question is: What coins (gulders or equivalents) did he most likely possess in his purse. My info also says that Goersdorf was a city belonging to the counts of Hanau-Lichtenberg until 1736.

Any ideas, Krause numbers / pictures? Thanks for any help, and yes, I'll soon be dead if I go off in this direction, i.e. the wife will have my heid!! image

Wybrit! Don't worry, I'm still collecting that other Kraut, Victoria! imageimageimage

Family history can be very interesting. I have a handfull of coins that were brought here by my great-grandfather in 1900.

I would imagine it was quite a mishmash of stuff- maybe not as diverse a mixture as was found in circulation here in the American Colonies at the time, but no doubt a vary wide assortment.

(Edit: note my accidental use of "vary" for "very". Very varied!)

    Wybrit! Don't worry...

I'm never worried by a collector who becomes distracted by other interestsimage. If you ever need to raise proceeds for this new direction by selling coppers or shillings, you know I am a PM away!imageimageimage
