Did anyone read about the idiot with the fake brass 43 cent?

I can't believe there was someone stupid enough to do this? let alone two people( the stupid coin dealer also). For those that did not read the article the dynamic duo found what they thought was a brass 1943 Lincoln cent and decided to fly the coin to the fun show in person. And the would be millionaire fled in tears when told it was counterfeit by PCGS. mike
I hope nobody thinks less of me but this was the funniest thing I read in a while!image

Why did they fly to the show? Only for one coin?

    • I believe it. One of the guys I work with used to be a PCGS grader. He told me about a time that a guy called saying he had an ultra-valuable great rarity but wouldn't give more information. He wouldn't put it in the mail so he took a trip from half way across the country to do a walk through at PCGS. Turned out to be a cleaned 1892 Columbian Half worth about $12 or so.
    • This person was on the local news in Orlando. I caught the story in my hotel room and it showed the guy when Miles came out and told him on camera that it was a fake. The collector almost cried right on TV because he thought he had a 100K coin. image

The story in CW also said the guy spent his rent money to fly to Orlando with the coin. The TV station felt so bad for him, they reimbursed his airline and hotel expenses. Lottery mentality - poor people get poorer, etc.
