NYINC Today

Got to the Waldorf without incident today, and the NYINC was quickly packed. Made some really neat purchases, but the two prize finds were: Un Decime Year 7 (French directory) in uncirculated condition; and a stunning 60mm medal of Charles Perron, commemorating the return of Alsace Lorraine to France, after the First World War.

Are you still there? I'm interested in a couple of items that will be auctioned today.

As much as I would like to remain for the entire convention, neither pocketbook nor eldercare responsibilities would allow it. Sorry. It is very frustrating to be wanting something at an auction, but be severely limited by mail or internet bids.

That Return of Alsace medal is spectacular. I got outbid on one on eBay, but I still hope to add one one day.

What's the Alsace medal look like? Any pics, anyone? One of my major family lines left Goersdorf, Alsace in 1750 for the Colonies. Nothing like tying some family history to coins of their region(s).

Mice can swim? Or they hopped a ride in the hold of the ship?

That is one show I always wanted to do.
    Never had the time.
Guess I just have to make the time. Right?
The most money I made are on coins I haven't sold.

    Got quoins?

Hi, MacCrimmon. I will try to have a colleague prepare a picture to post.
The obverse, entitled "Sous Le Meme Drapeau," shows what is presumably Marianne draping a flag over children presumably representing Alsace and Lorraine.
The reverse, topped with the words, "Liberte Justice," portrays the combined coats of arms of Alsace and Lorraine.
    The medal is 60mm.

By the way, I have noted your references to Single Malts. My current fave is Balvenie.

Ah, single malts. Now that is something I can relate to.

How about Glenmorangie? I have a tasting glass and a litre from them just waiting for that special occasion.

    btw, got quoines?

Ah, thanks Harasha! I can't wait to see it.....looks like Askari will have new comp for one of those! image

Thanks for reminding me.....I'm off from work tomorrow, so I think I shall pour a dram of Balvenie's 21yo Port Wood. Excellent malt! image

Ah, yes! Nice little glass they used to issue with special bottles. 'Morangie is the top selling malt in the UK, I believe. Can't go wrong on that count. I tried their sample pack about 3 years ago, and it's quite a nice range. image

Special occasion? The mere thought qualifies!! Cheers! To your health! Slainte Mhath!! image
