'51 Bowman Mantle PSA 8........$4550???

Did anyone else see this? There was a 1951 Bowman Mantle in a PSA 8 that was decent looking for the grade, and sold for like 4550.00. Isn't that nearly 1/4th of the SMR? Anyone got a good theory on this? The item Number was 2780059421.

  • Well let's see: Zero feedback seller and private bid history. Don't rack your brains over this one...

It also wouldn't be surprising to find out that PSA cert. no. resides in someone else's set.
  • In addition, the seller's email address of "snow_man1269" does not warrant a fuzzy feeling about the transaction.
  • I understand the points about the seller, however, wouldn't this card be worth it if using paypal or some other means by which satisfaction could be insured? Wouldn't it be worth it, if nothing else, just to turn around and list this card at auction and get at least twice what you paid?? Just asking.

  • The point everyone's trying to make is that you would never
receive the card to begin with thus your theory of relisting
the item and doubling your money is a mute point. Also, not
many people want to shell out $4k+ of their own money and
then when the deal goes bad depend on a third party (PayPal)
to try and get reimbursement. Bottom line...WAY too risky.

  • It took about 10 seconds to find the card in a Set, it is in Vargha's set on the registry, same exact card and scan. I doubt the gentlemen that sold it owns that card!

So he stole the scan then. The card was purchased for well over that by another collector. In fact, I think it is co-owned.
