What were they spending in Haiti and Dominican Rep?

On the same vein as John's thread.. except I don't have the answer!

What were they spending in Haiti between 1906 and 1949 and the Dominican Republic between 1897 and 1937?

I ask this because I was thinking about making a set for my dad of coins from all the places where the Marine Corps was in engagements abroad.. but I quickly realized that's an impossible set as many of the places weren't making coins at the times (because they were so unstable? duh!!). But still, I'm curious as to what was used as money in these places during such a long gap in native minting.

U.S. coins may have seen some use but I know those early native coins are many times found in less than VF condition and usually a lot less than VG.

D.R. 1897 coins do usually show up in G or so in my experience

You might check to see if Military Currency was being used during that period.
