I need 17th-century Krause help, and opinions.

1670 Breslau 3 kreuzer, KM 79, minted under the rule of Leopold I (1657 - 1705). The dealer describes it as VF-XF.

Opinions?

Too old for me to help. In the 18th Century 3rd Ed. Breslau coins in XF catalog at $450-2,500.

That's a decent strike.. but too green for my tastes. I'd wait for another. I'm not really sure how much it's worth, I usually go by gut feelings on this stuff but there's one here for $3??

I think it's pretty cool how drastically different the portraits can be from year to year on these old coins.

I think you made the right choice passing on the green one. They are quite common as 17th century coins go so why not hold out for a good one. They're readily available even in very high grades and reasonably priced.

NEN recently sold one in an NGC MS64 holder, I have a nice AU/UNC example and and was able to get a nice VF for under $20 (I think I gave it away in the Chrismans swap).

Listed under Austria - Breslau Mint, KM-79 lists at $6, $12, $25, $55 (VG, F, VF, XF) for every date of the 1665-98 type in my 2nd edition ('99) 17th century Krause catalog.
