Are there any non-military Communist themed medals?

    There some interesting medals here

These are Russian Federation medals with the typical awkward names like Medal for Merit to the Motherland, 2nd Class

They don't seem to be military in nature...

There are quite a few Labor type medals, I am getting a fairly large collection of Soviet Submarine and Diving Medals.

Also all of the Communist medals are political in nature, not necessarily military, and easily in most cases to build seperate collections from. The Communist Youth (Kosmosol)sp? medals for one.

If you mean art medals instead of decorations, the Soviets were prolific with them, particularly the Leningrad Mint. You might keep an eye on the eBay seller "rusrarity" as Kira offers quite a few at reasonable opening bids.
