  • Wayne, your images are really clear, what's your secret?

My images suck.....In my opinion. At random and unknown reasons to me, a few come out OK.

I know my problem with taking photos, and I consider this a Plus. Now I just have to get all the things correct. My biggest problem id consistant lighting ..type and levels.

    Thanks for your generuos comments.

  • I wounder how floresent lighting would work. I know it really brings out the luster on the coins in the dealers display cases.( I mean the coins look twice as good)
  • That may be true but I don't think it is good for digital photos.

Wayne, what would keep this coin from grading higher than fine? Wear on the robe and torso on the obverse is moderate and even; the shield is well defined; head and crown also well defined; the reverse wreath is evenly worn-definition on the leaves is good and the area of heaviest wear, the denomination is clean and defined. The almost unnoticible rim flaw at 12:45 on the reverse would not drag the coin down either. Nice franc!image

Thanks for the input. I have no experience, at all, on grades of these. Personally I think it is a nice example. I can not comment on grading since I have so little experience but, I consider it Fine+...... LOL...... that is not a real grade but........image

Wayne, your franc appears from the photo to be a solid SS (sehr schon), which is VF.
  • Thanks for the input Mac C.... It looks, in hand very, very close to my photo. I would like to think it is a "little" bit better than Fine........image

  • I'd say Fine-Very Fine. I have some examples of 1/2 Francs on my Grading Page.
Here's the Obverse & Reverse pics.
And some 1 Franc Obverses too. Just my opinions, of course.
And you think YOUR scans are bad!?! Hah! image

I'd say Fine, but not VF.

Thanks 'Ole Holy one, I recon I wasn't too far off of my guess.

This means I can now put it on Bay of EEeeee and claim a 1000 folks say it is UNC, or BETTER....... also L@@K here, and other things.

ps: This is the first and only reply I have from one of my posts from a National TV hero....... where do I get the T-shirts?

Thanks Rob...I agree about the grade.

You shoulda seen some of the gorgeous toned UNC Swiss pieces one German dealer had... wow!

I bought two coins from him- one was a 1918 "French Walker" 1-franc piece in a PCGS slab- as I recall, it was MS63. A white coin with gorgeous toning. I stole it for only thirty bucks, then Don stole it from me for $35.

I also bought a 1912 Prussian 3-mark proof from the same guy- an amazing white, raw proof... for ninety bucks. Krause says $175. That was probably my best deal of the show.
