How to recover money from an ebay transaction?

Anyone have any ideas how to try to recover either money one has spent from someone who fails to deliver items?

The dollar amount isn't huge, it was sent via a PayPal balance.

I know the guys name and address and have had it verified by another ebay who sent him cards.

I know the guy has the product, due to his having received many positive feedbacks on purchases of the items he was selling. PayPal says I qualify for their "Buyer Protection" guarentee, but I want to find a way to get my money or the product from this seller.

Thanks for any ideas.

Have you tried to contact the seller via email? If that doesn't
work then you can request the sellers contact information through
ebay. This will give you their phone number -- many times these
things can be resolved with a quick phone call.

The seller has bad contact info with ebay and has since been NARU'd. Likely for being a non-paying bidder.

He has quit responding to emails.

    Yikes....good luck...
  • You don't say if you paid with a credit card or not. If you did then you could just call up your credit card company and tell them you were ripped off; hopefully, you wouldn't have to pay a dime and they'll reverse the charges against your credit card. ALWAYS pay with a credit card if possible when you don't know your seller.

I had a friend purchase a golf club last summer and the same thing happened to him. Luckily, he did pay with a credit card and he was able to get his money back.

Now off topic. It disturbs me that so many people think that if you pay them with a cashiers check or money order that you have made payment with good funds. Cashiers Checks and Money Orders can both be stopped and/or cancelled. For those who believe otherwise, there are quite a few horror stories over on the coin forum you may want to check out.

  • If the money was sent via paypal you can notify them you did not recieve item and they will credit your account if the seller does not have a record of having shipped you the item (ie a tracking number).

    mr3holesinone-

I'd be interested in reading some of those threads. Do you have any links?

  • Justin, look at the top right corner of this page where it says Navigation. Use the drop down box and go to US Coin Forum. Once there, type in Cashiers Checks in the search. I just did it and one thread with about 15 stories/comments came up. There have been a lot more embedded within the coin forum threads but those didn't appear with my quick search. There are a LOT of different topics in the Coin Forum relating to EBay experiences dealing with various problems people have come across (shipping, fees, types of payment to accept, deadbeat buyers/sellers, PayPal issues, insurance, storage, etc.).

For those who don't know, PCGS has professionally graded rare coins since the late 1980s and is owned by the same company who slabs PSA cards. There is a lot of imformation within each forum if you want to look for it and learn.
