Ok, I admit it... I watch (and enjoy) the Antiques Roadshow. Just
think it's cool to hear the stories and see the crazy values on stuff.
Anyways, on this past week's episode (during the segment where they go
off-site and look at a particular hobby or artform) they went to the
Chicago sports museum and talked about sports memorabilia. The highlight
was the display of Black Betsy. Later on in the show, the hostess sat
down with one of the appraisers and they looked at some baseball cards.
The current trend of grading was discussed, as well as the old story
of the infamous Billy Ripken card. I imagine the cards came from the
appraiser's collection -- he had an SGC graded T206 Magie error card, a
PSA 7 Koufax rookie, a PSA graded '52 Topps Jackie Robinson, and a '33
Goudey Ruth. This episode may have been mentioned before, but I think
it's a new episode because instead of the usual weird looking host-guy,
they had a fairly attractive new hostess-chick. It's good to see the
hobby and the concept of 3rd party grading getting some exposure.

As a sidenote, I have actually been to a taping of the Roadshow. It's a pretty cool experience. I went back in the days when you didn't have to have preordered tickets to get in. Made for some chaos, but available to all.
