ebay feedback dilema

Attrocious Feedback

The other night I came in from picking up my sister-in-law to go out for dinner. As I got to the door my 13 year old grandson was hounding me to bid on something for him on ebay. (His mother doesn't have a connection).
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2682721004&ssPageName=ADME:B:EOAB:US:6

When I got a chance to look at it and he assured me he wanted it I placed a bid with like 12 minutes to go. and it was the only bid. I then looked at the feedback and it was attrocious. 50 negs in the last month and upon reading them it was for not receiveing, garbage, no communication etc.

I couldn't retract the bid and of course won it.

I was gone this weekend and this morning got a very nice e-mail telling how good she was etc.

I checked the item this morning and she has gained 9 more negs with a total of 59 the last month and 22 in the last 7 days.

AND she has taken her feedback private: User hipstylesnow(private) has elected to make their Feedback Profile private so comments are not available for public viewing at this time

Quite frankly, I don't think my grandson will ever get it it is only $10.99 plus $4.50 shipping and the $1.96 (of course USPO only charges $1.30) insurance.

I was going to send the money, she QUIT taking paypal (Scheesch, I wonder why?) But after seeing her feedback go private, I am greatly concerned. My feedback is 100% jimtre and don't want a neg but am very concerned about sending the money.

Any suggestions.

Thanks

Jim

    Send a USPS money order and send it certified with a receipt for you.

    if she doesn't mail you out the item, file a complaint with the USPS with your return card, carbon copy of your money order, and a printout of the ebay auction

    It doesn't matter how you pay. Most likely you won't get what you paid for.

    Find another one, bid, get it, and forget about this person. Thy're about to be NARU'd and won't follow through most likely.

    Her focus will not be on giving you a neg for an $11 item.

    Don't waste the money and use it as a lesson for your grandson on ebay precautions.

    they have over 4500 transactions on eBay. It's curious that they might have so many recent negatives. I wonder if it's not just someone biding on all their auctions to leave neg. feedback.

    See if you can talk to the person over the phone. Try to get them to send you an invoice via US Mail. Send payment return receipt and if they shaft you threaten them with mail fraud.

    Or, in the end, don't worry about getting a neg. feedback if you're really concerned about it. Don't pay and take your chances.

    Good luck!

  • It doesn't make a difference, I filed mail fraud and received a letter after 2 months of filing it with the postal service that they have forwarded a strong letter to the deadbeat. In their letter to me they stated they have given the deadbeat 60 days to do me right - either give me my money back or give me the merchandise. If after the 60 days I am to fill out additional documents and forward these to the Postal Service Investigators for them to sit on them again. The individual will not respond to me or the other approximately 56 others that he shafted (Dcubanmacho). I knew I would run into a dishonest individual sooner or later. If I knew he/she was a deadbeat before sending the money I would have taken the hit for nonpayment and saved myself the loss and stress.

  • Thanks for the responses.

    Ron, actually they have only a little over 1300 feedback not the 4000 you mentioned.

    The feedback has been again restored. After reading them they don't seem to be quite as bad as I remembered them. However they do have a ton of negs.

    As the day went on and in reading here I had decided that she was going to be NARUED and I decided I would never get and decided not to send the money.

    But, since they have restored their feedback and after reading them I have decided I will call them tomorrow and go ahead and send it.

    Jim,

    I looked at their feedback when it was private. It didn't show the comments, but the item numbers. There were over 4500 transactions. 1300+ individuals that left feedback, 1500+ that were duplicates, and obviously a good 1000+ that didn't leave feedback.

    My feedback rating is about 1050, but I've had over 1700 feedback from auction transactions. That's not even counting the people who didn't leave feedback for me.

  • Hi,

    I'm a dishonest seller's nightmare.

    I've gotten two bad sellers removed from eBay; I didn't leave negative feedback either time. Instead, I set out to resolve the problem. More accurately, I really was creating a record of my attempts to solve the problem while the sellers created a record of unreasonableness and dishonesty. First, you have to give the seller a chance to do right. If the purchase is for a small amount of money, I'd use a credit card. If you don't receive your item, your credit card company SHOULD remove the charge, and is also likely to have its own procedures for prosecuting a dishonest merchant.

    It's too bad that the seller took the feedback private. It's extremely helpful to get other defrauded customers together to complain. (Technically, it's a violation of eBay's terms of service to contact other eBayers for such a purpose, but I consider it the lesser of two evils.)

    Other steps to follow:
    - SquareTrade; a seller like this one is unlikely to be helpful, if he/she responds at all, but it shows that you're attempting to resolve the problem, or at least explain the situation in reasonable terms to a neutral party;
    - eBay's own reporting procedures;
    - File a complaint with fraud.org, the site of the National Fraud Information Center;
    - File a complaint with the consumer protection bureau of the seller's state's attorney general's office, and any other investigative agency covering the seller's jurisdiction.

    That's the route I've taken, and I've gotten results both times. I ended up getting my items, nominal awards from SquareTrade and eBay's insurance, and the sellers were removed.

  • Just one more bit of info, and I'm not sure that this is still the case, but I was told by the Post Office (or maybe it was eBay) that mail fraud charges can only be brought against seller if item is valued $25 or more.....most of the serious deadbeats fly under the radar and keep their items under that threshold.

  • Ebay should have, if not already, suspended this seller.. If not bring it to their attention and they should so this seller will not have the ability to leave feedback.. Good Luck! Andy

    eBay suspends for not paying their bill, having inaccurate contact info, being a non-paying bidder past their limit (they say 3 times, but after more feedback they let this drift up to 4,5,..), fraudulent auctions...

    besides that, if they think they can get their money, they will let the fraud continue
  • It's true that there is a $25 minimum for eBay insurance claims (purchase price only; shipping costs don't count toward a claim). For claims less than $25, it's unlikely you'll recover your money, but eBay will shut down a seller.

    I purchased a book from one seller (about $6.50 including shipping) who never delivered. The seller had a couple of dozen negative feedback entries from buyers who had the same experience, all for similarly small amounts. I contacted them all, sending links for where to forward their complaints. I ended up recovering half the amount after I filed a SquareTrade case, and the seller was removed from eBay. Not only that, but the seller ended up sending me the book AFTER he was kicked off, which was a surprise to say the least.

    My one other claim was for a purchase of $29.50, plus $27 for shipping. Again, I contacted the seller's other (dozens) of cheated buyers, who filed their own complaints (at least a couple wrote me to say they filed). I recovered $4.50 from eBay (purchase price minus $25), and the seller sent the item. Subsequently, the seller was booted from eBay.

    They are NARU'd now, so don't bother.

    It seems they were not able to maintain the high eBay standards.

  • I got the item today, in good shape, and my grandson was happy! I personnally don't like to pay the $4.50 shipping and $1.96 insurance (postal ins. is 1.30) but went in to it knowing the shipping was $4.50 and went for the insurance because of all the negative feedback. But it worked out in the end.

    Her feedback was atrocious and went private only to come back again. Her negative feedback in the last month went from 50 to 56 to 60 t0 64 to 67 and now back at 56. And yesterday she was listed as not a registered ebay user (narud) and today she is listed. ????

    But personally the only problem (besides her not taking paypal) was pshycollical (sp). And to be honest I will give her good feedback.

    Thanks for your replies though.

    Jim

    Well, This has been quite an ordeal. First she took her feedback private
