New purchase, Gloat or Worry

Please tell me if I did good and that this is a Rare year and not a counterfeit. If I found the right one in Krause it looks expensive and low mintage.

Looks like there is a mint mark below Vicky's bust which would mean that this is from an Australian mint. There should also be some sovereign listings under Australia in Krause which may help you price this coin. I see that it is one of the early variation of Pistrucci's St George without the ribbon on the helmet. image

It doesn't look to be a counterfeit and does appear to be the "real thing." image Can you give a bigger image of the Pistrucci reverse?

If the mint mark is M then it was minted in Melbourne. There are currently a few listings on eBay and there are also a few that recently ended that you can check to see an approximation on the current trend.

  • Spink 3857. Melbourne Mint, Long tail to horse... books £65 in VF and £90 in EF. Note these are British grades.

We wont know what grade it is until we see the horse's face.

Looks like a VF to me from the scan.

Here's one of mine (later date) in MS 60.

Remember that 19th-century Krause mintage numbers are in units of K (1000).

Great coin. I would love to see a better pic.
