Gotta acknowledge: Commems are the most fun...

I have had top reg. sets in (1c), 5c, 10c, 25c, 50c, (cal gold), but commems are the best. They are the most fun, as you get to learn so much more than just differences in dates/MMs.
In series where the designs don't change, you are limited.
With the commems, there is so much knowledge to be gained with each issue, not to mention the historical education one may gain.
A great set for kids' education... imho only... image

That's why I like them, each coin has a history, there are singles and sets and each type seems to have it's own special look---------------BigE

so true E. ...and there is a lot to learn about the original holders, the die pairings, the differences in "strike" among the various issues.
The learning curve is endless... ie.,
The Pan-Pac I had in the recent FUN auction had a teriffic blue-ish toning on one side only. The other side is white. This is because the coin came from an original framed holder, allowing toning to only one side.
Interestingly, there is another, almost twin to this coin, except that it has the same blue toning on both sides... (fyi) image

I'm sure WC isn't sleeping... and if he is, he's dreaming of our next sale. The FUN had a huge number of lots, more than even the FUN audience could handle. I had a great sale but well over $100k didn't sell. Watch out Portland. With a limited # of lots, some lowered reserves, it should also be a great sale... I expect to meet some of you there. image
ps. WC does have the other great PP, but, as far as I know, Ms. WC has dibs, and won't allow it to be sold. image
pps. If we could do pix like Heritage did for the FUN sale, you would drool. image
  • I like Commems too. I like them for many of the same reasons I like colleting type, I enjoy learning about the different designs. I wish I had made it to FUN to see more of them.
