That looks pretty Unc to me on the photo, but hard to be positive.

The 3rd edition of 19th century Krause quotes no mintage figure.

Boz beat me to the rest of the info.

I can't find this coin in my Friedberg (5th edition). I see a 20,000 Reis from 1849-51 (Fr. 119) but not the same portrait or reverse. Then Fr. 121 (bearded young head, which this coin appears to be) is only listed as minted in 1851 and 1852. Additionally, there's Fr. 121a (bearded older head) listed for the dates 1853-89.

This coin appears to be a young head but even as such the hair doesn't match exactly. What am I missing? Maybe my Friedberg is wrong or incomplete?

  • Thanks so much for the help, gentlemen! I really appreciate it. I still don't know if the coin is a fake or not, but it looks real.
