Interesting gold coin: 1700 Nurnberg klippe

This coin has a hole (especially for Lordmarcovan!) What's the value of this coin without a hole? How much would a hole detract from its value? It also appears bent.

    Hi hetman,

Look like a gold ducat KM258. According to my second edition Krause the ones with "CGL" under the coat of arms (like yuors) are actually restrikes made between 1746 and1755. The values without the hole are given as:

    VG....$125
    F......$175
    VF....$225
    XF....$275

  • Thank you so much, Mr. JamminJ. I wasn't aware that there were restrikes.

    I love it.

I saw and was tempted to buy a silver 1679 klippe (forget the country), when I was at the FUN show- it would have added a little more variety to the vest. But they wanted $179 for it, I wasn't sure if that was a good deal or not, and that's a bit more than I have ever paid for a holey, anyway. (The most so far was for the $3 gold piece on my hat, which I think cost me $145 or something like that).

I do not think a hole in the corner of a klippe should affect the value as much as it would with a normal round coin, as many klippes were pierced thus. This one had some design there, but many (including the holey klippe I saw at the show) did not- all the design was in the round area, and the corners were blank.
