I believe that is the 25th year anniversary coronation crown issue of Queen Elizabeth II. image

Hmmn.. is it considered a silver round? There is no indication of what the denomination is.

trozau is right. Unfortunately, I don't know what they go for. I am sure someone will give you a current Krause price shortly. I don't have Spink or my older Coincraft Catalogs at the moment.

  • It's a 25 New Pence. I think they are only a buck or two in Unc, no idea on the what the collector version(s) go for.

Spink 4227- Twenty-five pence silver jubilee commemorative 1977. UNC GB $1.50. Speciman in presentation folder GB $2.00. Proof FDC GB $4.00. Silver proof in case FDC GB $22. This has always been one of my favorite decimal reverses.

It is the silver proof if the features are frosted. It looks like it might be.

Tom - It has the beautifully frosted elements - it comes in a very nice case from the Royal Mint - it was sold as a proof and this dealer is very reputable. My photo does not show it as nice as it is in hand - does have an area of slight haze but all in all a coin I couldn't resist. Why is there no denomination on the coin?

The British did not put denominations on many of their coins for years. Crowns did not have any denomination title shown until 1927. The coins 1927-1937 had "Crown" while the 1951, 1953 and 1960 had "5 shillings." Starting in 1965 (ugly Churchill crown) once again there was no denomination indicated.

Your coin is a decimal crown (5 shillings or 25p).

Thanks Tom - I don't think there is a question that can't be answered by someone on this forum.image
