How did the Roosie breakfast go?

StoogeStooge Posts: 4,668 ✭✭✭✭✭
Some of us that were not able to attend the wonderful Roosie breakfast would like to know how it went. image

Who bought and what were the conversations about?

Any buying, selling or trading goings on that we should all know about?

Inquiring minds would like to know!image

Roosie breakfast went well... We met at the Peabody (6) and showed off stuff and told stories....Some of them were even true..... IMHO, the highlite was rainbowroosie showing off his rainbow set of roosie proofs (1950-64) and a Southern gentleman showing us his entire toned MS set....buying roosies was tough; I bought several nice raw coins, but the auction saw stiff competition for PCGS 67s with Nick usually the underbidder to Dave....I bought the 50D for a "very stiff" price -- $2357 -- not a small sum for a 67FB coin....that said, it ain't your average MS 67 coin....Nick will probably use it as his icon coin -- same way he "borrowed" my 54P as his original icon!!!!! ....Yes, Nick bought dinner at Vito's, truly the highlite of the entire FUN Show!!!image

PCGS was NOT MAKING COINS at the show -- grading was "very strict," arguably bordering on "harsh." Two very, very nice 67s did not upgrade -- sorry Craig!

There were many nice rainbow dollars at the show, usually at very stiff prices....the best ones were selling high. I saw a common date S mint Morgan in 66 trade at $2600 dealer to dealer....Stupidly toned coins were going for stupid money....Two examples: I bought a 45S war nickle PCGS 67 at $900; sold a 1958D MS 64 FBL Frankie at $1300 -- yes, a 64. These two coins were two of the finest toned coins I have ever seen...was the price too high or correct?? I can only tell you that both the buyer and the seller in each transaction was very happy...image

Here's what that $1300 Franklin looked like - I own a MS67 Quarter from that same mint set and whether Bill agrees or not, they look the same (course Bill looks at his ex-coin and at my poor picture and doesn't agree but its my picture that's at fault) :

    Craig,
That coin is not as pretty as the half, moreover it is surely AT, but I'll bail you out at $120.......imageimage

Bill, glad to see you respect color and are willing to step up (again). Seriously, when you showed me the MS64FBL last year at FUN and said you'd easily get $1000 for the coin, I thought you were smoking the Sunday comics........but you showed me! I need you to represent my coins when I'm ready to sell - it will be worth both our whiles! image

Craig, Bill gave me first shot at the coin at a lower price and I passed only to watch
him sell it for more to a dealer no less. The way I saw it was the dealer that bought it
would have paid more too. He showed both of us who the king of color is.

  • I visited the deserted FUN show today... barely anyone left... but Rick Kay was there, and he showed me a very, very nice rainbow toned Morgan he got... I was drooling on the display case...
