In collecting (just as in sports), you can look back on a deal after a few years and tell who came out on top. What's the worst/best deal you can remember?
My brother used to collect vintage cards when I was a kid, so I tried to do the same thing. I remember buying a nice 59 Topps Clemente and my brother was after it like crazy. So finally I traded it to him. Now mind you I was like 10 or 11, but I traded it for a 84 Topps Traded Pete Rose in the Expos uniform!! Ugh, I got so ripped off. 15 years later he's still got the Clemente and I have no clue where the Rose went.
I think I paid like 20 bucks for a Kevin Maas 90 UD rookie card. He didn't quite pan out.
A top positive deal for me was when I bought 2 boxes of 1989 Score football cards for 30 bucks and got 5 Barry's, 4 Aikman's and a few Deions.
Still wish I had that Clemente though...

One deal I remember was buying an "unsearched" lot of 1970's football cards on eBay about 5 years ago.
Got the lot, and sure enough, nothing but commons. Not even one single semi-star in the entire lot.
I mean these guys were so common that even their mom's didn't know who they were. Penny cards at best !
The only cards he didn't have the knowledge to cherry-pick out were a bunch of 1972 third series NM commons,
which were going for 20+ bucks a copy on eBay at the time, and which I promptly resold for a tidy profit.
As for the worst deal, I've got about 1,000 different ones tied for 1st place on that list ...
"How about a little fire Scarecrow ?"
1990 Leaf Frank Thomas rookie plus $10 for a 1978 Molitor that was sharp, no smudge, but off centered. I regreted the deal since that time, but now I am beginning to think it might be a wash today. I am currently having that Molitor card graded.
1988 Topps Traded set plus $20 for a 1983 Topps Tony Gwynn. This was a good deal ....no doubt.
1990 Leaf Steve Avery plus $45 for a 1989 Upper Deck Ken Griffey Jr. This deal is good since Avery is worthless and Griffey will be in the HOF.
