Mexican statehood coins

Read an article on the new state coins from Mexico-very interesting. here is a link news release without pictures. I searched but couldn't find any-very attractive coins. Now North American collectors have the Canadian, US, and Mexican issues to collect as a thematic group.

Latest CoinWorld has a big article on them. They look pretty cool. 32 different ones to be issued by the end of 2005. Low mintage compared to US quarters only 250,000 each.

I would keep an eye out at Panda America for them as they are a U.S. distributer for the Central Bank of Mexico.

Yeah, the CW article is the one I read... checked out PandaAmerica first thing but no word on their site yet.

  • The Mexican Mint site has the first 4 on a clickable map ready for view. All designs are of unimaginative coats-of-arms.

Totally lacking in any artistic merit. Just another mint program to quickly and cheaply get their hands on collector money.
    All glory is fleeting.
  • At least, it makes the U.S. quarter program look imaginative and artistic.

Tbirde-they are attractive coins-not super attractive but handsome and historically, portraying the coat of arms of each state is a reasonable and accurate way to go. There are many state quarter designs from this country that are atrocious-at least these Mexican State coins are pleasant and balanced.

  • These seem to be CGIs, I hope they look better in person...

  • Geeze I would think they could have done a better job with these. I agree that it just looks like a way to raise some cash. I will pass on these.

Don't pass judgement too quickly until you see the silver proofs-they are not bi-metallic and didn't look bad in the photo.
The traditional reverse is certainly not bad...

They don't look all that attractive, but at least they aren't estado outlines.

  • Nothing outstanding but nothing too horrible either. Whose going to tackle the states/provinces of North America set?

I don't think I want to start yet another set.
