'ebay' weasels ripped my flesh

Nothing remarkable about this auction... it just bothers me...
and demonstrates how people will screw other people over a measley $30.00.

I wanted to post it simply because it's helpful to inform other ebayers who is cool and who is a fool...

I won this auction for 268 different 1975 Topps Basketball cards nm/mt in a binder... I won it for $37.00...

I did a little victory dance and smiled about what a decent win it was...

then I noticed that an identical auction was ending the next day.
the other guy ended up winning it for around $66.00

I grew a little suspicious. Like... how could there be two this unique?

I emailed and left voice messages each day for about 5 days... no reply from the seller. I just wanted to make sure that I would get it since I won it first... or discover there was in fact really 2 auctions.

Until today...here is the seller's weasely little message:

Hi Geoffrey, I am sorry the auction was only suppose to run once unfortunately it did not. Please do not pay.I am sorry for any inconvience. Thank you for your time. Have a great day.
-C.

The other guy didn't hear anything either... until today... when he was informed he would be getting it.

so, it did not go to the person that won it first, it went to the higher bidder of the two auctions.

The good thing that came out of this is that the other guy who won it and I became buddies chatting about this for a few days.

Here's what I won it for first

Here's what my new buddy won it for the next day

  • that's messed up. You can report him to ebay for being a non selling seller. The other guy shouldn't pay him either.
  • i'd report him to ebay. interesting he says 'oops auction was only supposed to run once'- yet the end dates on both auctions are different. i don't know about you, but when i sell things on ebay, i make sure everything's right about a listing- and that it's only listed once.

I agree with Rainman. I would certainly report him, as his story seems highly unlikely. Why let a seller like that off the hook, even though reporting him to Ebay might not accomplish much, it would at least be some small reward.

  • well if you report him as a non selling seller, ebay will have it on record. if more reports come in the future, they may suspend him because he was already warned. If he truly made a mistake, the decent thing to do was honor the auction, or the bid the came first.

  • neg him

  • Thanks for the pic Vargha...
    yep, that's it

Having a serious problem with reporting him...
    I have been trying.... but...
all of a sudden, half of the things I click into in ebay don't work!
each time I get to the page where I am supposed to send the report...
    I get this message...

    Browser won't support cookies...

Why is this happening all of a sudden? I have tried fixing this every way I can with their directions...
I have windows ME... aol 9.0
is it me? or is it eBay?
  • try temporatily takingoff all your security features.
  • Well, I'm new to PSA but no stranger to the PC. image Here's a step-by-step of what you can do to fix the problem (assuming you're using Internet Explorer):

    1. Select "Tools" from the upper menu bar

    2. Click on the "Privacy" tab

    3. Near the lower portion of the window, you'll see a section called "Web Sites", and a button labled "Edit"

    4. Click on "Edit"; what this will do is allow you to keep your internet security options in place at their current level and allow cookies from a specified website

    5. In the "Address of Website" section type in http://www.ebay.com

    6. Now click the "Allow" button on the right-side of the window

    7. Click OK and you're tactical image, should work now. If you're still having trouble just send me a PM and I'd be more than happy to help you troubleshoot.

Let me know how it turns out.
