Which card would you want?

I know the phrase, "buy the card, not the holder"
so assuming you WERE buying one of these
and had to choose just one, which would
you choose and tell us all why?

(and please do not say "neither"... look at them
and really decide.)

    the 6
collecting various PSA and SGC cards

The cards are similar. Maybe the 6 has better centering but there may some flaws in the 6 that we cannot see from the scan. Without looking at them in person, I would pick the 7 because the resale value is greater.

While the 6 has better centering, that is only 1 part of the equation. Corner wear, color, gloss, registration, edges and the card reverse has alot to do w/ the determination. If they were from 2 different eBay auctions, 1 seller could have a nicer scan. I would like to see them in person, but if not I would view the pricing as that would have something to do w/ my decision too! The 6 at 125% of SMR (it smr's at $10) isn't as good a deal as the 7 (smr's at $15) at 75% - Also the sellers shipping fees would come into play, 1 might be $2.00 while the other is $4.00....Just some things to think about...jay
  • It seems Jeff already picked the 7.

    6 opens at $4.99 S&H $4
    7 opened by Jeff at $7.99 S&H $4

    Same seller on both.

No offense Jeff but I would of taken a shot at the SGC 92 and tried crossing it...currently $12.50, S&H $3.

  • I would take the 6

centering and overall apearance is better on the 6

it's hard to tell from the small scans but the corners on the 6 look better too

It seems like the 6 does have better centering, but you can't really see in the scan what flaws it might have (surface, corners). That said, I would buy the 7, as mentioned, for its higher "value".

  • I would take the 6....Better looking all around
    Ken's 1934 Goudey Registry Set
    - Slowly (Very Slowly) Working On A 1952 Topps Raw Set (Lower Grade)
  • Whats with the bottom right corner on the 6? It almost looks like the holder has a crack? Is it the scan?It looks like a small circle.
    Anyway,the 6 looks a little better.
  • If I collected Cepeda, then I'd definitely take the 6. (Otherwise, I know we're not supposed to say it, but if I were collecting a set of 1966 7s, I'd pass on both.)

If PSA were to have a huge scandal occur (ie. some card graders were paid $ to give certain cards higher grades), then we're back to where we were several years ago... raw cards and subjective grades. Buying the card makes more sense than buying the holder, no?

Edited cause I just saw that we weren't supposed to say 'neither', even though I still did.
  • If I were buying them raw, I would probably go for the 6 because of the centering. Seeing them graded, I would probably think about it for a while and then go for the 6 anyway, again becaue of the centering.

Well I bid on this before I really looked at both
cards (stupid me) and that is what
    prompted my thread.
Now I am really upset because I did not
even see the other SGC version. image

I noticed several chose the 7 for BV, but
I do think it is curious that no one said they
would take the 7 because it is higher on the
Registry? Don't most of you guys consider that
    when collecting your sets?
