What happened to coolhandluke?

Long time lurker, finally got off my behind and registered on these boards. Just wondering where coolhandluke disappeared to? He posted with great frequency a few months back, and had some great commentary on modern cards (which is sorely missed here). Did something happen?

Thanks for the welcome wolfbear and the replies, I must of missed a lot of the drama that went on. He just seemed to be fairly knowledgeable on modern graded rookies, and his posts were usually articulate and informative. Anyway, onward and upward.

    I believe him
cause everyone knows that coolhandluke was a woman!

  • As intriguing as this guy (Coolhandluke) is to me, I must say that I can see what the other people in his corner are saying when it comes to whack offs like this guy BAITING HIM. If this guy really wanted to come back, he probably could just like a lot of people on these boards who have alt ID's. He probably chooses not to because of people like BigKidatHeart who look for trouble on these boards by bashing people for no good reason.

BigKid, what reason do you have to be bashing this guy? Washis sports knowledge superior to yours and now by bashing him when he can't defend himself, you feel like you can redeem yourself? I may not have been on these boards a long time, but I will defend anyone who gets bashed without having a proper way to defend himself. If this guy was a card trimmer, or Ebay cheat, then I apologize and will stay out of these threads. But from what I am hearing, this guy knew sports cards better than a lot of people in here, and he offered lots of valuable insight. I don't know about the rest of people in here, but that is exactly the kind of people we need in here now. These boards are slow and not too interesting. These kind of threads are polluting the forums and taking place of what kind of stuff belongs in here. This is SportsTalk. If you want to bash someone that isn't even in here anymore, please find another board. It's a waste of my time as well as others.

I welcome sports talk like the rest of us.

I informed 'luke' about the Beckett boards, which is my main haunt (and yes, it has its pros and cons). He likes it there much more. And we're better for having him.

the funny thing is he is "attacking me"
    for "attacking Luke"
when all I was doing (or trying to do)
was make fun of ctsoxfan's post, his use of the
word "HIM" and the responses he had gotten.

I do not recall having any problems with luke
when he was arround. I can disagree
and still get along with people (ask joe stalin)

I have a great sense of humor
and obviously this roach guy does not.

    Oh well.

    BKAH,

It appeared to me that you were not attacking CHL, but just using humor based on the direction this thread was going. You were misunderstood by The Roach, that's all. I got what you said.

What bewilders me in all this is that why should anyone attack another fellow board member? I mean, we are talking about cards--its nothing life essential or anything. This is suppose to be a place to socialize and appreciate the hobby.

When I first came on these boards, I got slammed, bashed, attaked, ridiculed, etc. I guess it was part of the initiation rights. I held my ground and feel more a part of this baseball card collecting family. JoeStalin never bothered me, he was always cool. Habs and BKAH I think have accepted me into the clan. CHL was going through a little iniation rights himself, but I understand that his experiences were not as good.

DeutscherGeist>>..I find you to be intelligent, articulate, a stout defender of your favorite players and generally find your threads/posts of interest, albeit long winded at times.image In other words..an asset to the board.

I guess some people can not pick up on BKAH's wry humor....I have no problem with it. He too is an asset to the board.

There are board members that I would enjoy meeting, and those I would not. This is based solely on how I perceive their attitude on the boards.

  • Whatever. I may need to get used to the different types of humor these boards have. I just hate seeing or hearing someone get bashed when they can't even defend themselves. I may have misunderstood.

Anyway, I'm here to talk sports with whomever. I will post threads, reply to threads, etc.. whenever I feel like responding. If there is some sort of "clan" that some of you belong to like a Survivor alliance, then I will consider myself an outsider. I have 2 kids and a full time job. I cannot, and will not spend countless hours on these boards to raise my post count so that one day I am "accepted". I plan on offering insight and experienced opinions on sports and sports memorabilia.

I figured from the moment I joined that I would have differences with a lot of board members because that was a gimme on these type of boards. I hope to share my opinions and experiences with anyone who is interested and I hope to learn some stuff as well. I'm not a big believer in the whole "computer friend" thing so I could care less if a few people disagree with me. I mean well and look forward to having some fun talking about things that interest me with many of you. Thanks!

  • Gottabuyit,
I think that you wouldn't agree with Roach if you were here when Luke was on. You act as if we are mugging a 6 year old girl for a lollipop when you defend Luke. Luke brought everything down upon himself by his "i'm better than everyone", egotistical attitude. There's a difference between expressing an unpopular opinion and shoving that opinion down everyones throat. Plus his favorite pastime was baiting people with inflamatory posts as a way to show off his self-proclaimed wit and so-called mastery of English grammar. People like him we don't need, what we do need is PSAtan back.............he truly had a cunning wit......

I really didn't mean to stir the pot here by asking about coolhandluke. Apparently I missed a lot of the drama that was associated with his time here, all I recall were his posts about modern cards that seemed to be well written. I am certain that others here (including myself) will step up and fill that void and participate in some enjoyable discussions about all aspects of collecting. Case closed.

  • DB, you misunderstood what I was agreeing with. The part I was agreeing with was where he said

"Anyway, I'm here to talk sports with whomever. I will post threads, reply to threads, etc.. whenever I feel like responding. I read some of lukes posts while I was waiting to be signed up with the PSA message board. Luke was a boring long winded and obnoxios person. He would write marathons on subjects that should have taken 2 sentences. He thought he was intelligent, people like that usually are the opposite and usuall have some pretty bad ego and brain problems, like his friends murcerfan goodriddance and 2323. by the way 2323's name is his I.Q. said twice. He figures if he says his I.Q. twice, he will be twice as smart.

  • Pandrews,

You don't need to agree with me. That's the beauty of these boards. People are missing the point here. I don't know the Luke dude so maybe I should be backing off, but I do think these kind of threads shouldn't receive so much attention. I am guilty also.

This guy apparently had gotten inside some of your heads enough to keep talking about him, even after he is gone. I used to be on the Beckett boards for awhile and the great thing about those boards is that they have an "ignore" feature which allows you to avoid posts or replies from any member you choose to. I guess this board doesn't have it, but why don't the people who complained about this guy just ignore his threads? There's nothing physical about these boards. It's all typed words that can easily be ignored.

Personally, I think more people like to jump in and instigate troubles than they choose to admit. I am not doubting that this guy may have stirred up trouble here and there, but the more oxygen you feed a fire, the more it burns. Sorry if I stepped on anyone's toes in the process of explaining myself.

  • Here Here Roach !! Its like after a beloved King died, the toast would be Long live the King !

I'm not trying to impute mythical status on "Luke", but apparently he was very good at knowing his cards and participating in those discussions. For the H... of it I did a search on his past threads and including the fact they were benign, without anger or maliciousness, they were usually intelligent.

So, as I see it, you have members of the board who know that, outsiders not customarily on this or any sports board looking for a fight over a past "indignation" and a few members who lost arguments with a personal vendetta.

That is easily apparent by a read of the threads, board comments and those with an "anti-luke" sentiment.

But, according to JeffNesq., he has moved on to Beckett and is happier there!

So, long live Luke, wish him the best, and lets get back to our board business as I had suggested earlier.
  • roach, you stepped on no one's toes. You were practising your first amendment right. Don't worry about it. You cannot please everyone. If you were to save the world, there would be at least one jerk (place the name murcerfan, 2323, or goodriddance if you like) that will hate you for it. Don't worry about it.
