Did anyone win anything?

I wasn't even close on Heritage's lot number 12570 (British Honduras, George V 50 Cents 1919, KM18, AU, nicely toned). I figured it was worth around $300 (with the juice), and the Internet bidding ended at $345 plus the juice! image I wonder what it will do on the floor. Only a couple of my bids survived Internet bidding, and I get the feeling I'm going to be blown away on the floor.

Too bad I couldn't see the coins in person and bid with more gusto on the nice ones. When I bid via the Internet or fax without seeing the coins first, I'm really conservative.

Sounds like I'm missing a great show. Wish I could be there and meet everyone.

I had a 1919 British Honduras 25 Cent piece. Problem is---it was fake. So I gave to Ye Olde Dead Skeletal Remains of a Monarch.

I didn't know there was enough interest in British Honduras coins for someone to go to the trouble of striking counterfeits.

  • I only have a more recent BH, but I like it. It also is only 1 cent.

British Honduras is known as Belize these days. It's right next to Honduras.

  • Actually, it only borders Guatemala and Mexico. Honduras is about 50 miles down the 'road'.
Those are some nice red bronzes!
The early BH coins have pretty low mintages which accounts for their values and scarcity.

Mine was pretty well worn, so either it was struck to fool people in its day, or more recently from a cast of a worn coin. My guess is the former.

I was just watching live auction for Japanese coins...too fast to see what were the winning bids, but seems like I lost them allimage There were 3 20 sen silver coins with rare variety. Heritage didn't describe they were rare variety so I thought I had a chance to get them, but I guess some floor bidders knew they were worth more than the regular ones.

Yeah, I won the 1918C PCGS MS62 Canada Sovereign and got clobbered on the other Canadian stuff.

Dagburnnit! All my bids got overtaken on the floor. I came up second highest bidder in two instances, but $5 away from the highest bid still means no coins. image

I thought I lost, but looks like I won 2 lots
    lot1
    lot2
    lot 2 is a rare(scare?) variety, I think
