Crazy Money for PCGS MS67FB Rooseys

Wow!!!

I was just watching the Heritage sale and a 50-D FB went for $2050 plus the juice and 51-D FB went for $1550 plus the juice. Both common coins with nice color but that nice.

Just a comment.

and the Merc Dimes were dead. I really do not know what to say about some of the prices some coins bring. Demand dictates price I suppose. In the long run I hope collectors do not get burnt though. Very bad for the Hobby when a foul taste is in the mouth.
  • on the roosevelt dimes, somebody must have thought
they were shot upgrade to 68 to pay that for them

    Roosyfan,
That 1950-D in MS67FB is regularly on eBay for under $100. Sometimes I feel there is a whole different collector on eBay, then say heritagecoin or teletrade. I've seen countless coins go for dirt $$$ on eBay and sell for "skies the limit" $$$ on Teletrade. I just don't understand it.

And...if the purchaser of that 50-D thinks that he/she is going to get an up-grade to an 8, well gooooooooood luck! You could probably send in 20 of those and maybe, just maybe get 1 to up-grade. Just IMHO.

The 50(d) was a sensational toned specimen. I had planned to bid close to $2500 on the dime, but, Nick mentioned to me hours before the auction that RainbowRoosies (Bill) really had his heart set on the dime and planned to bid up to "$1700" to get it (it was at $900 at the time). I decided to lay off the coin so Bill could win it and told Nick to tell Bill I wished him luck in the auction (Bill did not ask me to lay off the coin in any way, shape or form). I learned later that Bill stretched to over $2,000 to win the coin and had made the decision after I laid off the coin to "NOT PUT HIS PADDLE DOWN" for the dime and to win it at any cost!!

WAY TO GO BILL - YOU PURCHASED A SENSATIONAL 1950(d) ROOSIE AND WORTH EVERY CENT OF WHAT YOU PAID IMHO image

I for one am glad to see all this "hot" action on technically solid and colorfully toned coins - does my heart and soul good.....but not enough good to make me want to sell all of mine! image

I didn't see the 50D in person but it sure looked cool !!!!

I bought the 50D as it is perfect for my set -- absolutely stunning Wayte Raymond toning...coin is NOT a 68, but I am kicking the 68 I have OUT OF MY SET to put this coin in! .....As for "value," the underbidder was Larry Shepard...'nuff said.imageimage

I had the pleasure of sitting next to rainbowroosie at the auction. The 50D was the one and only coin he bid
on and was determined to win the coin. The coin is a solid MS67FB with outrageous color. If I thought the coin
was a shot 68 I would have bid on the coin at a much higher level. Roosies were very strong, especially the
ones with great eye appeal and PQ for the grade. Unfortunately I didn't win any of them except for the
68D in 68FB. It was the prettiest toned clad dime I have seen.

  • I can respect a person that is willing to bid whatever it takes to get a coin he wants for his collection reguardless of the grade on the slab. I have done this before and will in the past. I saw his set of Rosies and can say that they cannot be many other sets that equal or surpass his in terms of eye apppeal.

Craig, I think Jason was talking about Bills set of toned proof Roosie's. Bill had that set at the show
and was showing it off. I have to say it was the nicest color proof set I have ever seen. Bill could
care less about the number on the holder. The set graded PF64 - PF69. This was a set you stare
at the coin and never look at the grade. Great set Bill

I second that. It was a real pleasure to look at it. Also , it was real nice to meet you guys, even if you do collect roosiesimage
  • Bill's set of toned proof Rosie's was outstanding! Nick also had some beaut's with him, too. It was a pleasure to see Bill again, and to meet Nick and Jason at the show. As for the 50-d and 51-d, they had outstanding eye appeal, I had planned to bid on both, but the bids were too strong for me. OT, but the NGC luncheon was great, even surpassed the nice get together PCGS held last year. -mark-

PS>>it was great to see DPoole, Scott, Mitch, Zapper, Cool Hand Luke, Bob Stockford, Cameron, Dheath, MS68, Rick K, Keets, BigT, BigMoose, monsterman, Uncle Bob (AACoinCo), the Michigan millwright and others at the show I have probably forgoten to mention. Still can't figure out how a Buckeye like Keets can hang out with someone from that state up North?? image

  • Man... I guess I missed out on seeing some nice coins... I could only make it out to FUN this morning... was stuck in Tampa Thursday, Friday and Saturday... though, it was still worthwhile for me to go image Jason left a beauty of a White PCGS MS67 Merc with Rick for me... thx Jason, it's AWESOME!!!! I will post scans soon, but I'm sure they won't convey the beauty of this coin... also picked out two really nice White PCGS 66 Mercs at the show... but, I still haven't found a nice toned Merc that I like... "JrGMan's Beauties" Registry Set still contains no toners... but I've made my way up to being ranked 70th Current Finest Set, with 8% completion and a GPA of 65.91.... turning out to be a nice set so far... but I hope PCGS starts up a Merc Short Set...
