Centering has alot to do with it but I think its all about the bidding war.

Sadly, those prices are pretty typical for the 1957 and 1958 sets. PSA 8 and 9 Dodger and Yankee cards tend to bring big bucks.

Always looking for 1957 Topps BB in PSA 9!
  • It all goes back to how misleading the Pop Report is. There may be 22 of a particular card graded in PSA 8, but how many of them are centered and very hi end? In my opinion, very few. So if you are building a very high grade set, you step up to the plate and pay the price.

I have a feeling that in the upcoming years, either value of hi grade sets will go either down the toilet or go the moon. I vote for the moon. Those of us who watch EBAY regularly and see national dealers at major shows know very hi quality centered vintage is not out there for sale any longer. And when it is, name your price.
  • Anyone see this one end last night?
And to think I was going to pay double SMR??? ($140)

1958 Topps Red Sox Team PSA 8 SMR $70

    Wow!
Seems like whenever one hits eBay, it sells for higher than the last one.

the prices were high on most of these cards as they looked really nice and high end examples. I had snipes on 4 of his cards ,2 went off and i lost the other 2 I didn't have a chance.

    58 red sox , $180 snipe , what was I thinking? $660
57 koufax, looked high end, $888 , snipe didn't go. card finshed at 900 and change
56 koufax $477 got out bid by 1 bid
58 koufax, looked super, 1 soft corner but otherwise fabulous. $499 , got outbid by 1 bid

on the 3 koufax cards, I bid higher than recent sales

    a 58 sold for 375 and 1 didn't get any bids at 450
the 56 , they have been selling around 450, this card was in the range as far as quality.
the 57, doesn't come up much but thought I had enough.

    I'll keep trying
