I am not trying to say anything

I think LUCKOFTHEIRISH believes the slabbed coin is silver therefore missing the "S" mintmark or wrong planchet from Philadelphia

If the silver quarter is supposed to weigh 5.75 grams and the copper-nickel 5.67 grams - you probably could not be sure -> would you have to run test to find out metal composition to be sure?

Doesn't look silver. Here's an easy test. Get the same type of holder with a clad quarter and the same type of holder with a silver quarter and weigh them on a scale with 1/100 minimum gram accuracy. Then weigh this one and see which one it is closest to. Mint tolerances being what they are, it should be very close to one or the other.

Does anyone know what the mint specifications and tolerences were for quarters 25 years ago?

The silver planchet was supposed to be 5.75 grams +/- what? .005, .02, .05 ?

I am not sure weight by itself can be an indicator of composition - anyone know?

    Luckoftheirish:
From the scan of the PCGS coin, its a clad Philadelphia, not a 40% silver no S coin.

Glad you posted it. I was wondering what you actually had.

Nice group of off center bicentennials !!!!!!!!

Weight itself does not tell you the composition, but its a start. Objects of the same size, but different weights actually do have different compositions....
