Can anyone tell me what these little guys are - they are very small - I think the three brass like ones are oriental but I don't have a clue where to look in the Krause. Shep
The brass ones are under Republic-General Issue.. I think they're Y 357, 1 cent, not sure though.
What's on the back of the aluminum one? That front is common to all the early PRC stuff.. if it's the 1 fen it's Y 1. It should have a western date on it.
Spoon - Thanks for the response - On the reverse of the aluminum one is a 1 and a western date of 1964, thats why I didn't include it in the picture. The little brass guys are Repuplic of China? and the Aluminum one is Chinese Commie? Shep
Yep, the aluminum one is mainland China, 1 fen. If I'm right on the small guys there the date would be 1940 (Year 29). It looks like most of the other coins from that time with spade money pictured were bronze.
HistoryGeek or one of our other experts should be able to clear it up.
I'm really having trouble making out the date, but it's definitely in the teens, and it probably is 19, which would be 1929 on the western calendar. That group of characters at the lower right of the one below the aluminum coin is the date, with the character for year at the top of the group.
Spoon was right in pointing to the Repubic of China - and I found them in Krause - only one year they were made like this and it is 1940. Thanks for the help. SHep
Nice brass fens! Taiwan didn't become the last Nationalist bastion until Dec. 1949 so both Communists and Nationalists occupied varying parts of the mainland until then when the People's Republic was proclaimed.
