I haven't been in a couple years. I think it was around 60-100? The dates are February6-8 (Friday through Sunday).

    Vargha,

Is the Hollywood Park show held outside on the lawn in some big park?

Hollywood Park is a horse racing track. The show is actually held upstairs inside a card club (casino with no machines).

I'll be there. Seems like they might have a better dealer turnout than usual this time. Registry Board lunch?

Here is the promoters site, not much info but discount admission coupons.
David, I'm good for lunch on Saturday, anyone else coming? A & J, Allan Allen, Nick, Studebaker?

    Griffins-
This is A&J (I'm now onegaucho)

I literally just found out I need to be in Dallas the week before for work (it's the week when my wife and I had originally planned to go on a mini vacation). Reason I mention this is I now might not be able to make it to the show since we'll probably go during that weekend... we'll see.

Sure would be cool to meet some fellow set collectors from this board though!

Looks like I don't have to work that weekend so I will tentatively put it in the plan. Is it any cheaper to drop cards off at the show for PSA?

PS. Got that Jablonski and it looks legit.....the 72% that I got at least!

I'd like to put myself down to meet some fellow collectors. I went to a show last year there (my first show in over 15 years) and it was pretty good. Plenty of dealers were there. If it is okay for me to join the "luncheon", please let me know where and when.

I will be there. I have set up at this show for several years now, so I will not make lunch. It does attract a few of the major dealers. It use to be concidered a PSA show because it is in their back yard and they would grade on site. Now they just take drop offs. They have a wide range of table prices, so it will attract quite a few dealers that will not do other large shows. I think that they are closer to 100 dealers, maybe more, many with more than one table

I'll probably be there. I know for sure PSA will be accepting submissions, because they are cancelling February's PSA Saturday on the same day (plus they told me on the phone image). I'd love to meet up for lunch, thanks for the thought image.

So who wants to come up with the time and place? Or at least the time? I'm lame on organizing these things. I'm great at telling you if I think your ideas stink, though. image

I don't think there is a restaurant in the casino (Marty would probably know better), if there isn't it's pretty slim pickings right around the show, and it would be a drag to leave in the middle to go out somewhere. How about a registry breakfast before the show, say around 930 or 10? Failing that a late lunch around 2 or so?

Breakfast would be best for me as I don't know how long I could stay at the show with my wife in tow, and the real reason I would want to go is to meet folks.

Breakfast would be cool. Is there a Norm's within a few mile radius? I seem to remember there being one somewhere in Inglewood near the 405. They have decent food, good portions and reasonable prices.

    Here's the map. It's at 1050 S. Prairie Avenue

    From the 105 Freeway:
Exit Prairie Avenue, and proceed north to the track.

    From the 405 Freeway:
Exit Century Boulevard and proceed east to Prairie Avenue.

    From the 110 Freeway:
Exit Century Boulevard and proceed west to Prairie Avenue.

I think there is something near there, Norms or simliar. I'm only about 15 minutes north of there, I'll swing by this weekend and report back.
Don't worry Dan, if your wife is in tow we'll all be sure to tell her no card costs more than $25

Thanks Griffins. Actually my New Year's resolution was to spend less money on cards this year. I think I can pull it off, the only problem is that in order to prove it to her I would have to admit how much I spent on cards last year! image

    Count me in.

BTW, for anyone who likes basketball, the NBA All-Star Weekend (which includes a card show and lots of free autograph opportunities) will be the next weekend at the LA Convention Center.
I've already begun cutting back on other buying to plan for these 2 weeks.

There is a resturant inside the casinio. There is also a deli and several tables and chairs, even ones that do not have chips on them. There is a Norma's with in a mile, not a great looking place, but it is good food and cheap. Right on the south east corner is an In-N-Out. I'll take a double-double with grilled onions.

Glendale's are too common for Murcer, its got to be an obscure dog like Felin's, Hunters, or Esskay's.

not much chance of being overrun
with kids at this show, huh?

    Jeff-
Is any show in danger of being overrun by kids anymore? It seems I see less and less every year, but part of that could be due to the death of Pokemon- not that that is a bad thing. Sounds like the Orlando show was just as devoid of kids.
To get to this show you have to walk the gauntlet thru the casino, which will never be confused for Vegas. Sort of like Darwin's waiting room- an appearance by Don Mossi would elevate the group.

Griffins - use the side entrance of the casino (near the Clubhouse entrance for the track) - it takes you right to the foot of the stairs to the show, and you don't have to traverse the casino floor.

Anthony -- Have you got a breakfast meeting place scoped out yet?
  • Options
    GriffinsGriffins Posts: 6,076 ✭✭✭
I do indeed. Norma's restaurant (not Norms) at 4410 Century Blvd. Its a few miles east of the 405, a few yards west of the intersection of Century and Hawthorne/LaBrea (LaBrea changes names to Hawthorne Blvd right at Century) on the south side of the street. Their phone number is 310.673.1402
If we can get a head count the day before they will set a table aside for us. From here its a few minutes to the show. Who's going and what time should we meet?
