Off topic: anyone here in a fraternity (then or now)????

I would've posted this in the Open forum but I really don't care about most of those people as I do the people here.
I was an SAE (Sigma Alpha Epsilon) at the University of Evansville
Anyone else in a fraternity at one time or another?

  • the ones at Texas Tech, when i rushed in '99, were losers. at least the actives. ive since met many cool TKE's, at TTU and other schools. i was referring to my rush class, not the entire fraternity in general. sorry bout that

    To paraphrase WC Fields :
I would not want to be associated with any organization that would accept me as a member.

Besides, the mail-order school I got my GED from didn't have fraternities ...

  • Rushed Sigma Chi my sophomore year.

I was the only pledge so 3/4s through the semester they decided to defer me until the next semester. I had enough booze and chicks and wanted to make something of my life, so I told the to F-off.......The day I grew up!
  • Anyone ever heard of FarmHouse?
I was a FH pledge about 20 years ago,
but I never met their minimum gpa requirement
so I never was made a brother.
I did have fun as a peldge for 2 semesters though.

Not a social fraternity, but I was in Kappa Kappa Psi, a musical honorary service fraternity.

Alpha Gamma Sigma---not a frat, but an honors society.

I was invited to join Alpha Chi Omega as founding member at UC Riverside, but thought it was not for me.....I did go to the Kappa Alpha parties, though.

The idea of contrived friendships seemed absurd to me and there was nothing really binding the "brothers" except for expected loyalty. I mean, friendships should grow naturally. People should have things in common and not be thrown into some house randomly. I know some people are weeded out, but it is still random and not based on certain interests.

I dated a Tri-Delt, an Alpha Xi Delta, and a Chi Omega. Not at the same time. But the frat life was definitely not for me.

Theta Chi here, University of Nebraska at Omaha, circa the early 90s.
  • Sigma Phi Epsilon!
Looking for tobacco cards (T206, etc), 1960 Topps cards, autographs, dvds, coins, plus more
  • The fraternities of today have been mostly very cruel to the pledges. I'm glad i had a life in college and was very secure in myself and had no need to join one. Those are the people in fraternities these days.

What on Earth are you basing your opinion on? You obviously haven't been to a campus lately. By and large, hazing is gone, at least at the campuses around here. Seeing something on Inside Edition or whatever shock show about fraternities and deciding that it's all ruthlessness is plain silly.
  • Hazing is gone? Apparently you are not paying attention, or basing your opinion on one school.

One mad cow = no more eating red meat
One musician/child molester = no buying CD's to support these monsters
One repot of hazing = fraternities are all hatemongering elitists
  • There has been a lot more than one major hazing incident buddy boy, and a lot more that is not violent enough for the news that does not get reported.

"Buddy boy"? Who the hell are you, besides a troll that just sits here and fires off 20 posts a day about nothing at all. Sheesh. You probably didn't even go to college. Stop wasting our time.
  • Wow, did that make you feel better? Actually I have a 4 year degree in business and will start my masters in Political science, and after that will go for a doctorate in Political science. Does that make any sense to you, or should I dummy down a bit for you to understand? Don't bother replying. I have better things to do than read your crying about frats. You feel like a nobody and joining a frat makes you feel like a somebody. Good for you. You are a somebody now. You are and alpha delta omega stinktega, whatever. Have fun.

Gottapostit: You are correct...thank you for your clear and edifying post. Now please start another interesting thread, about what all our shoe sizes are, or why PRO cards don't cross over well, or something else as interesting.
