We had record high temps in New Bern yesterday, 80 degrees and sunny. Today felt like normal Jan weather, cool, but not quite cold during the day.

Late last week we had a couple days of record highs -- 78! Sunday morning a front moved in and it was only 11 when I took the dogs out ... and a windchill of much less (and highs of only 20-24). Our highs aren't due to break 40 for a few more days yet.

Ah, I think I'll dig out my old bivy and camp out in my backyard tonight. There's nothing like a nice glaciated, 6" deep bed of fresh snow for bedding. Shoot, it's only down to zero degrees though. I'll bet wybrit wishes he were in this sauna.....nothing like a splash in the outdoor hottub to freshen up in the morning, too image

If the forecast holds for above freezing on Sunday, I'll scare up my speedo and wash the van.....nothing like that glare off the snow to get a good winter bronzing! image

We had some nice ice fog last night, leaving a beautiful coat of white crystals all over every single branch and power line. It's really beautiful!! Brrrrr....also pretty cold, about -15 C with a stiff wind.

Another beautiful day in Paradise here! Once again, as every other day during this trip the high was predicted at 30C (~86F), sunny and humid with afternoon showers.

I should be travelling home Friday wearing my sandals and with no coat. My wife better meet me at the airport with my parka given the current temps in Minneapolis!

  • Hey I work in it the cold thats is. Any time the temp drops to 0 or below with or without the wind chill I get 25$ winter warrior bonus per night. So my thoughts on this are the more cold the better for me.

Monday night it was -17f with the wind chill
Tuesday night it was -10F with the wind chill

    So far im loving it.

    Pretty but Ugly.

This is about 30 miles south of Portland,OR where I live. I understand Portland is much worse. The high temp yesterday was about 27 degrees with snow and then Freezing Rain for 6 or 7 hours. image The second picture shows the work that is cut out for me after last night.

Brr. I dunno about this twelve below stuff, but it's rather bizarre to be running both air-conditioning and heat in the same 72-hour period. Just a few short days ago it was short sleeve weather here- near eighty degrees! Now it's dipped back into more normal January temps for us. (Forties and fifties, though 'teens and twenties do happen occasionally).

Don, just click your ruby slippers together three times and say: "There's no place like FUN. There's no place like FUN. There's no place like FUN."

Next thing you know, you'll be in Orlando. image

Nice pics, Fairlaneman. Remembering what it was like to drive on ice from my days in the NC mountains, I have to agree with the whole "pretty but ugly" statement.
