Guaranteed turnaround times --

Here's your own wording --

PCGS's turnaround guarantee assures you that PCGS will have grades available in the number of business days specified. For example, for Walkthrough (2 day), Special Express (7 day), Regular (15 day), PCGS will have grades available the following number of days after the day we receive your order. The number of days it takes for the delivery agency (U.S. Registered Mail) to return graded coins to the submitter is not included in the number of days allotted to PCGS's turnaround guarantee. Note: Available services and turnaround times are subject to change. Days during which PCGS is attending a show or hosting a dealer invitational are not considered business days for the purpose of calculating guaranteed turnaround times.

What is the guaranty exactly? What is the remedy if the coin(s) are not graded in the specified time allotment. What if that "free submission" grading coupon is not graded in the time allotment? Is that guaranteed as well?

How long does it take to enter a coin once received into the PCGS database so the clock can begin ticking? What exact days does PCGS attend a show? Is the day before and after the show also considered part of the show since they are travel days. How often does PCGS have invitationals?

Why has the guaranty been applied capriciously?

    Michael,

Your question: What is the guaranty exactly?

Answer: We guarantee that the final grades will be available in the time specified, i.e. the final grade will be determined and will be available to the submitter.

Your question: What is the remedy if the coin(s) are not graded in the specified time allotment?

Answer: We offer a like number of complimentary submissions for the same type of service.

Your question: What if the "free submission" grading coupon is not graded in the time allotment? Is that guaranteed as well?

Answer: That has never come up. I guess I would want to fire some people if it did. Actually, we are late on such a small percentage of guaranteed submissions that the odds of this happening seem remote. What would we do?...I don't know...probably offer the submitter double comps.

Your question: How long does it take to enter a coin once received into the PCGS database so the clock can begin ticking?

Answer: Typically coins are entered within 24 hours of being received, but it can sometimes be as much as 48 hours. This answer only applies to coins that are correctly submitted, as nearly all of of orders are. However, for the small percent that are incorrectly submitted...wrong numbers, combined services on one invoice, etc...it takes 2 to 5 additional days to sort out the mistakes. When you do not follow submission procedures, all guarantees are void. But again, that only applies to a small percentage of submissions.

Your question: What days does PCGS attend a show?

Answer: The PCGS show schedule is posted online, though it is always subject to change.

Your question: Is the day before and after the show also considered part of the show since they are travel days?

Answer: It depends on where the show is. If the show is on the East coast the answer is yes, travel days count as show days. If the show is local, then travel days aren't counted as show days, though we will sometimes grade at the show a day before it opens.

Your question: How often does PCGS have invitationls?

Answer: PCGS hosts 4 "Dealer Invitationals" a year and they are considered shows. The Invitationals are now posted on our website as part of our show schedule.
