I am currenly building a PSA 8 set of 1976 Topps baseball and currently the set is ranked # 11 by PSA. I still have about 100-200 cards to post on the registry which would put the set at about #6-9. This will leave me with about 200 cards left to fill the set and I wanted to know what everyone else thought would be the best way to fill the remainder of the set? Thank you in advance.

" Go ahead and get your fancy barely visible cell phones that get the internet, play DVD's, and can speak 5 languages. As for me and my Atari cell phone it works, it weighs 7 pounds, it is 14 inches long, and it looks like I could call in an airstrike from a remote desert it is so large!"

My suggestion would be to wait and hold on to your money for the next couple of months until people start listing larger lots of 1976 PSA 8s thanks to the current registry special. You should be able to pick up a good portion of the rest of the set over the next 3 to 4 months. Buying the larger lots will minimize the amount you pay per card...and will also provide you cards to trade to get the final ones that you need.

Welcome to the boards.
I concur with Basilone. With the new grading special,I think over the next few months, you will see an increase in 76's and they will be more affordable.

While it is not the most popular set or has any key rookies it is the first set that I collected in large numbers as a kid and holds special meaning to me. I used to buy packs from the local 7-11 after games on Saturdays and my two brothers and I would collect so we had several thousand cards around the house. I wish kids today could experience the fun I had growing up playing ball, collecting cards, and watching the NBC game of the week at 1 pm after This Week In Baseball, and staying out until dark playing again. Oh to be 8 again - good knees, abundant energy from sodas, snow cones, and hot dogs, no job, plenty of gum to chew, and occasionally having to clean my room.

<< <i>Thank you very much for all that posted comments and that is what I have been doing to put the set together - I did not think of the grading special and that sounds like a good idea to wait. I have been able to get some large lots on EBay (200+ cards) in PSA 8 for an average of $2.50-3.50 a card, and if I can hit one more lot of 100-150 cards I will be close to being done with the set.

Best of luck on the set and welcome to the forum. Ive only been posting a few weeks and its been pretty cool. People seem pretty nice compared to other boards.

Very similar experience for me. 1976 was the first set I collected as a kid. I used to vacuum the carpets and my mom would give me a quarter. I would promptly run down to the mini mart at the end of the street and buy two ten cent packs of cards and 5 of those gummy fish for a penny each. Built my entire set that way. I still have that set but it's in VG-EX due to all the handling. But that VG-EX set still has much more value to me than the NM-MT version I bought a few years ago. 1976 is still one of my favorite sets. I like the design but most of it has to do with the sentimental value it holds for me.
Although there would be a rather large arguement about her set designation being vintage, her energy so far has been boundless. Janelle has managed to break her own way into the Top Twenty on this set and has even received a little special help from a few special friends amongst the registry faithful. For that I give thanks.
For those who know me well, and know Janelle, you can not imagine how much this effort and our mutual enjoyment of her quest touches me.
Best of Luck Slvnumber; I've become an Incidental Tourist of this set and have indirectly become educated about the nuances of collecting it.

Thanks for the kind words and glad to see you have the young one's involved with collecting. I have had a blast with this set and not only does it bring back memories but it is a lot cheaper than the stuff I normally buy - I have a fairly extensive collection of PSA 8 Ted Williams from the 50's and they cost a little more than an 2nd year Brett
When I was playing ball in high school and college I not only collected cards but game used stuff as well, and I was able to get some neat photos with Mantle and Whitey on the field as well as Ripken. I enjoy these more than any card I own or the stuff they signed for me because it is personal. I really wished that I had been able to get a picture with Ted while he was alive and it was neat playing on the Red Sox fields in Winter Haven.
Let me know if you ever need any cards for the little one to help with the set, and if I have any extras I would be more than happy to help out. My set is currently under Conrad Card Company on the registry and hopefully this weekend I can get some time to enter more of the ID numbers on cards that I have yet to register. Talk with you soon.
