where is this signing? it would be more like $100 - 150 wouldnt it?
There are many things that bother me about the Rose situation. Most of all is the timing of the announcement. Today, we should be talking about Paul Molitor and any other Hall of Fame inductee there may be. Instead we are discussing Pete Rose and his ploy to associate his name with the Hall and overshadow the inductees. If Pete had any respect for the game he would let the inductees have the spotlight. How long will it be before a reporter asks Paul Molitor his opinion of the Pete Rose situation? This should be a special day for Molitor and any others that may be elected. They should not have to talk about Pete Rose.
Also, plain and simple--he lied. 14 years of outright lying. So now, to sell a book and get re-instated before his time on the writer's ballot is up, he tells the truth, hoping to be exonerated. It is a fairly common opinion that the Veterans Committee will not elect him.
Why should we believe him now when he says he never bet against the Reds? He's lied about everything else. How could he be reinstated and allowed to manage again? There will always be a shadow cast over the games he manages.
The bottom line is this: Put him in the Hall for his on-field accomplishments and add to his plaque that he bet on baseball. Put Shoeless Joe Jackson in the Hall and end both debates.
Do not reinstate Rose into baseball. Baseball has enough problems.
Good points about Rose grandstanding. It's truly a shame and rather inexcusable that he did not wait a week or month or whatever, so that this year's inductees could have their moment. Typical conduct from a self-centered jerk, though.
I totally disgaree with you that he should be in the Hall, even with a shameful disclaimer. However, apart from my opinion, the problem is that the HOF will not consider anyone for induction, as I understand it, who is ineligible/banned from baseball. So it appears he would have to be reinstated before he could even make the ballot, or the HOF would have to change its rules. Again, it is my understanding that MLB does not control the HOF, so it would have to independently act. Strange how Rose doesn't turn his pleas toward the HOF itself, or if he has, why that line of dialogue has not been explored by the media.
<< <i>I just dont understand the people that stick up for this guy.
Great ballplayer. Total Ahole as a person.
This is a well timed confession and media blitz to sell books and pump up his ego.
If you participate then you would be defined as "sheeple". Baaah!
Go ahead and let Pete back into the game so that whatever shred of credibility the game had left is gone. >>
Carew, you are right about Pete Rose. You are wrong about baseball's credibility. It lost all credibility many years ago. The fact that Bud Selig is commisioner, a former used card salesman, should tell you about baseball's credibility. He made his daughter run the brewers. How convenient.

Bud Selig owned car dealerships.
Used card salesman is an honorable profession.
