Canuck coin question

I recently developed an interest in Canadian coins. Anyway, I see the proof like sets, specimen, and double dollar sets. Can someone translate these coins into dumb American? I believe that I understand that specimen coins are similar to U.S. proof coins.

Also does the numismatic community consider the cased silver dollar to be trash non circulating legal tender? I have seen pics of some of these cased silver dollars that tone to an incredible coin.
Lots of questions, few answers

  • PL or proof-like sets, are business strickes, Specimen sets use better dies and are struck slower and twice, Double Dollar sets use a different die and are silver. This is just off the top of my head, and is not that reliable. Check the link. On the left, select dictionary and/or you can ask the question in the forum.
You'll get it answered properly there.
