Buying Lots On Ebay??

Is this a dumb thing to do bc of the triming of cards? Or is a smart bc you can find some gems in the common lots? Im just starting to get into grading. but got my a$$ kicked on a card already. i cant tell what to look for if they have been trimed? is there an easy clear cut way to see?

i've found some gems but also found lots that are "so so". stay away from the "$5 grab bag" lots. my best luck has been buying up entire collections off ebay- loaded w/rcs, autos, gued- even some older cards...all in decent (not psa 10, but possibly psa 8) condition. when in doubt, ask the seller for more pics
