If I open it at work I can just see everyone wanting to "look" at them and end up with more finger prints than PCGS gives out image

Definitely. What's the point of coins you can't look at?

Jim - if they're 63's you're likely to be dissapointed. I hate to say this but most 63 rolls I've seen have been nothing but garbage. High mintage and low quality. Of course you may hit a gold mine, but the chances of that are the same as hitting the powerball in my mind. If you don't have a whole lot invested in them - by all means have a ball - but if you paid a premium, well - pass it on - you probably will do better that way.

I also have been involved in the opening of around 15 rolls of 63p's.....

Not one coin was worth submitting......

63p is the absolute worst I have seen......

I would heed Lucy's advice and keep this roll wrapped and would try to peddle it on eBay before their increased fees kick in. Make sure to write a good description.

If you paid over $100 for this roll, please ignore the previous sentence and hope for a couple of nice coins worth slabbing.

IMO, the overwealming probability is that the OBW is much much better (worth more, rarer, more interesting) if left unopened, especially with that nice end toning and the mystery of the date.

you will be making a mistake if you open it, but I can understand that the temptation is irresistable.

my guess is that it's a roll of MS62s and MS63s, worth about 4 or 5 bucks each.

left unopened, as a tails tails roll with that toning, the roll might be worth a couple hundred.

I guess this comes down to the whole collector vs. investor dichotomy.

If you're more of an investor, don't open it. You could definitely get more money for the coins unopened. If you're more of a collector, then open it. You'll definitely have more fun opening the roll and searching the coins.

I should add that I'm currently sitting on a roll of '64 halves that I haven't opened yet. So, it is easier said than done!

If both sides show the reverse, how do we know it's a 63??????image
