Great Mindsimage Nice Coin Dimitri, They are at a minimum ,,Half the cost of a Lightside comparable.
  • These coins are cheap because they are very common. Many German 10 and 20 mark from especially Prussia are still around and most have light wear (VF-AU). Yours looks nice and uncirculated.

In Denmark such coins trade at the gold value unless they are absolutely uncirculated. Same thing goes with most Danish gold coins. The Danish coins are incredibly hard to find truly uncirculated. Don't let yourselves fool by the fact that US grading companies slab them as uncirculated - I have seen such slabbed coins from NGC, PCGS and ANACS offered on Danish auctions. The coins were graded anything between MS60 and MS65 but ALL were offered as AU (or, i certain cases, "good AU") image I have occasionally been able to spot wear with the naked eye on such slabbed gold coins.

It is probably the same thing with the German gold coins. Our grading is just stricter.

MadMuffin,, I have a 10Mk on my watch list NGC MS-66,,,Don't think it would be a 66 if it was LightSide. I think that brings out your point nicely.link

I don't think German 10 marks should be confused with the much more common 20s.That's a very nice coin btw!

Raw BU Danish mermaids are nice too image Both from 1900, in my favourite 2x2 intercept shield holders, the small one with lordmarkovan pedigree.

Very nice!! Making a type set of such "modern" European gold would be a nice enterprise.

Tres, tres joli! I thought these coins would be going up in price, not down.
