Post Number 5001. Give Away but........"Winner Picked"

You must tell me what you know about the Lite Side Merc Dime.

1. The Designer

2. The Models name that the Designer used for his design.

3. Whether this is the Most Beautiful USA coin ever produced. Some how I think how you answer this question will make a Big difference when a winner is picked......image

In case of a tie the entrants names will go on the Kitchen Counter and one will be picked. Sorry I have no hat to throw them in.

I will pick out some World Coins, sorry I do not have many, and of course a Merc Dime for the Winner. Have Fun and please remember if you Bad Mouth the Mercs you just may get disqualified. I'll let this go untill 9 PM Sunday night and then announce a winner.

Again Thanks for the help you folks have extended.

Ken

    3. Sorry but I know what you would say but I would place it #4 after St Gaudens $20 and $10 gold and the Walking Liberty half.

How to make my answer stand out?...................

    (1). Weinman, Adolph
    (2). Stevens, Elsie
(3). I have to agree with others who place the beautiful classical styling of the St. Gaudens/Walking Liberty half/SAE ahead of the Mercury Dime, although the dime's classical styling is a near second. I honestly believe that U.S. coins haven't shown any beauty or imagination since! (One of the reasons Darkside coins are attractive!).

Geez that was easy for you guys...image Everyone should get number one and two correct from here on out.

It looks like maybe the winner will come down to the answer for question number three. My choice for the number two USA coin has not been mentioned yet. The Walker is number three with me.

    3. I don't like the St Gaudens design.. I dunno, it's kinda bland for my taste and really overused. I like the SLQs (though I don't actually have any image ), aside from that I'd choose the Merc because it's got a refined look. The Walkers are nice and classical-like, but too stereotypical. The Mercury's got that touch of style not often seen on coins.. some frenchies might compete, but those just seem too ordinary. I dunno, I don't have any Mercs either so maybe I like 'em because I'm not used to them? Nah, they're just nice image Then there's the Buffalo. It's got the same feel as the Merc for me but in a different way, it relates more to history than art (which the Merc does, art that is).

Kinda went rambling, but that's my answer. Thanks for the chance image

    3. It is simply a very nice series, In my opinion the nicest the US mint has produced. Especcially the reverse. Unfortanly I don't have any and I wish I could collect it, but mint state examples are at the moment a bit to expensive (I'm only 15, and circulated coins don't look that nice)
I will surely collect the series on a later date.

    3. First off most of the older coinage is awsome. Its very hard to compair one coin to another ie.. the Merc to the St. gaudens. I believe you have to look at each coin on their own and judge each only with like coins ie.. merc's with merc's St. Gaudens With St. Gaudens. The mercury is a small beautiful coin. the St. Gaudens is a large beautiful coin both have there people that will stand up and defend them to their deaths. Me on the other hand I like both because their are AMERICAN they both show us what coins here should look like. LOL and besides its hard for me to say I like either or.. But if I had to chose it would e the mercury Because im one away for completing the entire set minus the 41/42..

I hope this is good enough to enter.

Would your number 2 be the Standing Liberty Quarter? Very nice toned Mercury dime by the way !

The first two questions have been answered correctly by everyone.

I have always loved the Mercury dime. It's a simple, beautiful and simply beautiful design. It's hard for me to pick favorites, but it's WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY above the Churchill Crown on my list. In fact, it's one of my favorite of all coin designs. I find it in a class with the Standing Liberty Quarter, Walking Liberty Half Dollar, Buffalo Nickel (although the nickel isn't as elegant). Plus, I love the incuse Indian gold coins as well as the Indian Eagle and St. Gaudens Double Eagle. Another design I like is the Seated Liberty obverse of many different denominations.

Last but not least, I love the Roosevelt dime for its.....*%@#$&*#*$%^#%@$&#%#^@#$@$%&^ I hate that dime and the subject too.image

(That part was easy image )

    3. Of the US coins, my favorites are the Mercury (in first place because that is the coolest coin I ever pulled out of circulation), the Peace and SLQ in silver. For gold-the Indian and Saint. Copper is the Flying Eagle. Honorable Mention goes to the Buffalo and Walking Liberty. The only one I don't have at least some representation of is the Flying Eagle, I may have to go shopping once my budget recovers from my new computer, plus the pending car and house buying I need to do!

Sorry for being late. The college Football game caught my attention.

Thanks for entering and I had hope that 1jester would win this so a Roosie could be sent. It was not to be though. After putting all of the names in a bowl and then having the better half, Karen, draw a name the winner is comisdebris. Please PM me with your address and the coins will be sent off to you immediately.

Thanks Again for the replys which were enjoyable.

I need to add some to my list: since this is the darkside, this might not be considered stretching it.. but I like the Philippine walkers image
Flying eagle cent, Peace $1 and Indian $10 are all cool too image
(that's not counting old 50c commems)

Congrats to Cosmic! He'll like the coin for sure; he's a closet, pseudo-Litesider anyway...
