    How do you get the background so dark ?

    The background is a reflection, in this case the camera is close to the coin and the reflection is the camera which is black. Any silvery or white bits on the camera will reflect as such. i covered the camera with a black sock to get rid of most of the silver bits and used a permanent marker to black out the writing on the lens.

    Those are great coin pics. Sometimes I just like to capture dramatic cameo effect without worrying about the coin surface. I find a three light setup works pretty good for illuminating the devices.
