DSL STRIKES AGAIN

Beautiful 50-50 centering...if you measure from the bottom left and top right corners. What's even funnier is that some moron bid 40 bucks for this gem. Text

I think he is complaining about the grade and trying to imply that DSL somehow gets special treatment. It looks like an ugly 8 to me, but an 8 nonetheless.
  • what grade do you think it should've gotten? looks like it deserves the 8 it got. an ugly 8 (which is why i avoid most psa 8s), but still 8 worthy.

What's the point of this statement? To slam PSA? To slam DSL? or to slam the high bidder? No matter what your intention was, I think your arguments are weak.

The card meets the standards for a PSA 8.

DSL provides a lot of nice, high grade cards to the hobby, as well as some sliders. Can you name another ebay seller that is any different?

SMR for this card in PSA 8 is $65. That "moron" got a decent deal for a low end 8.

    Do your homework first.

If you figure 10 % of all 7's could be 8's, and 10 % of all 8's could be 7's,
regardless of who submits them, and DSL submits tens of thousands of cards,

well ... just do the math. Long live DSL ...

It looks right at 65/35 (L/R) at its worst point. It is not a true "diamond cut" since the corners appear to be at 90 degrees. The image is the portion that is off. Therefore, it is not "miscut".

BigKid - that's not the sort of diamond cut they are referring to. Occasionally cards will be produced that are not rectangles (i.e., the corners are obtuse and acute angles). Take a look at the '52 Dropo that Alan gave away on another thread. Those get a MC from PSA (if they get graded).

  • Yeah Jeb, That guy got a steal for that card at 40. Especially since the SMR says its worth 65. That card can be had all day for 30 bucks in PSA 8, and some of them you dont even have to look at cross-eyed to enjoy. But you just keep paying for whatever's on the flip and quoting SMR. I gotta go do my homework.

the card looks like an 8, not pretty, but qualify on all aspects. at it's worst point the centering qualifies. if you look at the sc an and don't like then move on. I can't see any issue with any aspect of this sale. If I submitted that card , I would have wanted an 8 also as that is what it deserves based on grading guildlines.
  • mintyfresh,
I could be wrong but it seems you may have an issue with PSA's standards rather than their application. For instance, this card would grade a "frazier 6", but that is my standard for eye-appeal and technical merit. While it seems like I'm a stricter grader than PSA consider that I will grade an otherwise MINT example that is virtually perfect with a single hair-line unnoticeable surface wrinkle a NM 7...PSA says "5"...again it's the STANDARDS we're dealing with.

Lastly, The difference between us and DSL (who I used to rail on but have since shut-up as they have sold me some gorgeous cards the past couple years) is that we wouldn't submit such a card. DSL understands PSA's standards and submits accordingly. They do so because there will always be "morons" to supply the bids. They know the rules and play the game exceedingly well, can you blame them?

My pet peeve with DSL is that they seem to be inaccurate with their population claims. Simply put: they don't include the population of the card they just received making their advertised claim one less than what actually is. This has been going on for quite a while. A current case in point is the '67 Topps WS card #152. It's a Pop. 2 in 9 and not a Pop 1 as they are currently advertising on eBay. (I have the other 9).
  • Dude,
Back atcha! I HATE that!!! I'm not just talkin' DSL here. That is a huge peeve of mine...especially when I have the other card!!!

Its funny, I have the same card in PSA 8 that put this card to shame. I am really considering getting it regraded. It should be a 9 for sure.

the grades are ranges as vargha was trying to say buy yhte card or something or that nature, what is the saying? millco I am sure your card is a nicer 8 but becasue this card is an 8, that doesn't make yours a9. there are ugly 8's out there but they qualify on all the guildlins butthe nice 8's still only qualify for an 8. I think the sooner you learn this the more youwill enjoy the hobby. I used to have the same complaints then I read the quidelines and realized that most cards taht I complained about met the guidelines for a certain grade on the plus and minus. now I have a lot more fun with what I collectimage
