selling complete sets on ebay

I've noticed many people post complete psa sets on ebay...yet they never seem to get bids or hit the reserve. i was wondering if anyone's had success selling psa sets. furthermore, it seems like the one's that get the most attention are peoples' low grade extras sets. are they more popular, or are people just trying to steal them at a bargain?

  • As time goes on the older set or "real cardboard" sets will demand a premium for higher grades. I have noticed a few more sets than usual on the bay as of late. But all have sold for reasonable $$

I sold a complete 1949 Bowman PCL graded set on eBay. I also listed virtually complete PSA 7+ graded 1949 Bowman and 1939 Play Ball sets on eBay. They didn't sell for the minimum, but both sold "off line" for slightly less.

Vargha, would you say it's better to list sets on ebay just to get the word out....so in the end you can sell them offline???

It's certainly a good way to start. Place a reasonable reserve on it so you don't take it in the shorts on your set. Depending on the set and your patience, selling it card by card can also be the way to go. I sold my 1951 Bowman set that way and realized a greater return because of it.

As an added note, Steve's 1975 Topps set was purchased on eBay as was mine (from Mike Castaldi). We have both upgraded since that time.
