Kind of cool, kind of strange - what the hell is it?

It's about the diameter and thickness of a quarter, very high relief and I think it's pewter. Any ideas?

    Pope Pius XII served those dates, so accurate from that standpoint, beyond that ... beats me.

    There have been dozens if not hundreds of different sets of these things made over the years.
    Many have been available at Vatican gift shops and the like. I believe some have also been
    sold by the issuer of the Vatican City coinage.

    They come in various sizes and metallic compositions and while they may look to be of precious
    metal, precious few really are. Some are extremely well designed and made but typically they'll
    look like this one.image
