David (HomeRunHall): Is PCGS planning to participate in the upcoming Southwest Regional Money Show in Houston on Jan 23-25th? The reason that I'm asking is that I usually don't travel outside of a short driving distance from Houston to attend Coin Shows, since this is just a weekend hobby for me.
If PCGS will be at the Houston Southwest Regional Money Show, would it be possible to participate in some type of Grading Contest while there for Classic Type Coins? I personally specialize in Morgan Dollars and Classic Type Coins (mostly 19th Century).
I think that your grading challenge is a great idea. How much time will participants be allowed to grade the 40 test coins?
As a collector, I have lots of time to determine coin grades (and/or grades of potential purchases). I can envision that with only a brief amount of time (30 seconds or less) -- it would be more difficult to determine a coin's grade. I'm assuming that participants will have less than a minute per coin, and will have to grade many different coin types.
It may be interesting to allow participants in this (or a future Grading contest) to pick their specialty series to grade to match up better with PCGS' grading experts. I recognize that it is very difficult to be come proficient at grading a wide variety of coins. Many of us collectors tend to specialize in certain coin types for which we have sharpened our grading skills.
Thanks for your sponosring the World Series of Grading and for your forum posts (Q&A and U.S. Coin Forums) which have generated some interesting comments...

PCGS cannot attend the Houston show. We are stuffed to the gills with coins and need to take care of business at home.
The World Series participants have 30 minutes to grade the 40 coins.
Thanks.
